Hassling with a poor ride is absolutely not worth it. Insist on satisfaction at Sam's or get your money back.

If that fails go to Discount Tire. It's a franchise but every one I've been to is absolutely run right. Customer service is A+. They'll make you a competitive deal on getting out of the Sam's Club problem if it comes to that.

Just called the wife, she said TireTeam.com.

I compared both sites prices against my old LR3. TireRack had 1 tire that was about $5 cheaper, but all the others where usually $10+ cheaper at TireTeam.

Cool, never heard of them. Thanks for the tip!

+1 on Discount Tire too. They fix flats for free!

I used to buy from Sams, but now go to Discount Tire. The prices are equal or better, the wait is shorter, they will haggle a little with you, too. My last two sets I have paid for one tire protection upgrade (they replace punctured tires - even sidewall punctures - for free) and they gave me the rest for free. They do free rotations every 6000 miles. Free air pressure checks/fills. Maybe I'm just lucky, but the people working at the one close to my house are very friendly and knowledgeable.

For this set, I would ask to speak to a manager at Sams. Then politely tell the story of the many problems & excuses you have heard. Give him/her a chance to make it right. Politeness usually goes a long way with a manager who is used to hearing customers who are ticked off.

This is golden advice.

I'm actually very polite 99.9% of the time. I think I've only lost my cool once in my memory. I work in Customer Support and I know that I tend to completely ignore anyone that gets nasty with me. :)

No DT stores in the entire state of Virginia.
How does that happen??

While I tend to have long waits at DT, I usually am pretty satisfied with the service I receive.

You should protest. lol

Only been there 2-3 times, but I make an appointment in advance. 45 minutes and I am driving away. Maybe just lucky.
One time I took my mountain bike with me, dropped of the car, got a ride in, and my car was ready when I got back. Perfect.

I'm not near as fortunate to warrant an appointment.

My last few visits to DT have been spur of the moment and were because I was driving with a nail in the tire on one car and about 10 miles from a blowout on another car.

Fortunately, I take my laptop everywhere I go, so I just tethered my BB and settled in.

A follow-up on the Goodyear cupping issue:

Goodyear F1 Eagle A/S were recalled in 2010 due to a cupping issue.

This does not mean that all Goodyears are crappy tires. Quite the contrary, Goodyear and Dunlop score very high on tire tests held worldwide. I've raced on Goodyear tires for 5 years and have had zero issues. All manufacturers go through issues from time to time when developing new products. Just putting it into perspective for you.

So that's the cupping issue. Out of round manufacturing is yet another issue........in addition. Racing tires and the crap they sell to dealerships and tire establishments are two entirely different beasts.

I wouldn't take a set of goodyears if they gave 'em to me.

PS - thanks for the info on the tire weights. Didn't know that.

I thought I'd fly this by you guys and see what you thought.

I just got new tires a few weeks ago for my car from Sam's Club. We've gone there for tires before and never had a problem.

This time, the day they put them on I could tell they weren't balanced well because the steering wheel started to shake when I got above 60mph.

I went back and they re-balanced them, saying that they just found out the balancing machine had been malfunctioning.

After I left from having them re-balanced, it seemed better, but again, it was still shaking.

I went back the third time and they told me the glue that holds on the weights had apparently not set, and the weights had fallen off.

This time, the steering wheel isn't shaking, but I feel like the car is bouncy, for lack of a better term. It's like I put a quarter in the machine and the Magic Fingers are going under my car. No matter what road I'm on, it gets bouncy at around 60mph.

My car is a 2009 and it rode as smooth as a baby's butt prior to getting these tires, so I am positive that there are no issues with the wheel bearings or suspension.

It's still a balance issue or something with the tires themselves, I think.

Has anyone experienced this before?

You answered your own question...Sam's Club. ;)

I have the same issue often at Discount Tire. Sometimes the tires are out of round (Defective,) but most of the time they forget which tire to balance or they simply don't do it right...

Goodyear Eagle F1's aren't exactly a cheapo tire, starting at $121 per. And racing technology fuels street technology. Always has. I'm not able to find anything on the out-of-round issues. I wouldn't junk the entire Goodyear tire line because of one recall. To each, his own. :)

So, I went back this morning to see if I could get some resolution. I saw a guy outside that looked like he worked in the tire shop and spoke with him. As it turns out, he had worked on my car one of the other times I brought it in and we had a talk about how strange it was that the tires kept going out of balance, when he knew that he himself had balanced them only a few days earlier.

He also said that he was not a Goodyear fan, just based on his own experiences. He said that he had spoken with one of the managers about the tires even before today and that they would replace them, but we would speak to one of the managers on this morning to get the final ok.

He checked into other tires that they might have and found that there were a set of Michelins that were not only cheaper to begin with, but they are running a Michelin promotion that would give me additional money off for what he felt was a much better tire.

The only downside is that they have to order them from the factory, but they will be in next week. For a better tire for less money, I don't mind. I don't really drive much, so it's not a huge deal.

I'm a Michelin fan. All the Michelin tires I've bought have always done well. Many times you can notice the difference on how the car / truck handles with different tires.
