New York Jets May Cut Eric Ainge...

Just caught the tail end of a talk radio show in NY and they were talking about the QB situation for the Jets and they said that they may have to cut rookie Eric Ainge.

They were saying that their QB depth chart is Pennington and Clemens are fighting for the starting position but neither has stand out. The Jets best QB so far is rookie Brett Ratliff.

With talks that Farve maybe traded to the Jets, Eric Ainge looks to be the odd man out, either way because the Jets may only take two or three guys on their 53 man roster.

IMO, I like Ainge, hope Dallas was going to draft Ainge or David Botty who went to the Vikes. I guess with not alot of options for a backup QB, maybe the Cowboys make a move on Ainge if he is cut.

I wasn't aware that Ainge was even drafted.

I never really thought of him as a pro prospect... doesn't surprise me that he may be cut.

If Ainge is cut, he'll have to go through waivers so doubt the Cowboys could get him. Presume the Jets will try to recoup draft pick used in Ainge so maybe that's the way to go. Of course, Ainge won't be legit backup for Romo for 1-2 more years so if we want a backup now, it's somebody with experience.

I hate to state the obvious, but if Ainge can't cut it with a QB poor team like the Jets (even as the third string backup), he has no business being on the Dallas roster. If a guy can't play, let another team waste their time figuring it out.

Chris Mortenson speculated that if the Packers do trade Favre to the Jets that they may ask for either Pennington or Clemons in return along with draft picks. If that happened it would not save Ainge a spot, but it doesn't automatically kick him out of the loop, either.

Didn't the packers already spend 2 draft picks on QBs (including one on the first day) to rebuild their depth there? They were going into the summer not counting on Favre, so trading him shouldn't create some unexpected need.

If I'm the Jets, I'm not sure how great an idea it would be to trade for a one season fix at the position. They have a lot of rebuilding to do and Favre does nothing for them down the road.

It was just speculation by Mort, but it makes some sense for both parties.

The Jets are not likely to keep both Pennington and Clemens if they get Favre. They will probably cut one of them, so they can offer one up to possibly lower the cost of the draft pick or picks they give up to get Favre.

Favre retiring or being traded does not create an unexpected need, but the Pack may want to add a veteran back up instead of rookies. At worst, they just turn around and cut whichever QB they may get in return, whether that is Pennington or Clemens.

I agree with the other post about how the Jets adding Favre does not make a lot of sense to start with. The Jets are not contenders with Favre and need a long term solution at QB.

If we make a move at backup QB we better go with a vet. I really don't want rook backing Romo.

Why would they want either Pennington or Clemons? They drafted two QBs this year, including Brian Brohm. They don't appear to need another QB unless they aren't impressed with either rookie.

I am not sure that they would like Mort suggested. If they do it will be because they think they have a shot at winning it all this year and don't want to rely on a rookie to step in if Aaron Rodgers gets injured. Or should I say when Rodgers gets injured. I think Mort's point is moot because the Jets don't seem like the logical trading partner for the Pack.

Ainge is not a right now option as a backup. Even if we signed him he wouldn't beat out Johnson as the backup to Romo.

Funny Clemons story -- I was watching the Thanksgiving game at a friend's house -- her parents were visiting -- her mom follows U of Oregon sports religiously -- when Clemons threw that pick 6 to Roy - this nicely dressed, well put together and seemingly very polite 70 year old woman unleashes a freaking tirade -- g-d Clemons you ****ing stank at Oregon and you ****ing stink now you stupid ******-****ing idiot, get your *** off the field.

It was frightening. I almost wanted Clemons to play well the rest of the game so that she wouldn't get upset again.

If the jets trade for Favre, they would have no need for Pennington(they could cut him - not that the Cowboys should have any interest). Clemens would be their backup and continue to groom him and then they could go with one of the rookies as the third qb.

The Cowboys really wanted John David Booty in the Draft.

That's interesting. Love how you throw that out. And........

Don't care about Ainge. Saw him enough to not be thinking he is a NFL QB in the making but I'd really not know that. Seems they've taken to developing QBs over several years so whoes to say.
