Newman as Punt Returner. Worth the risk??

I haven't seen here or heard on the radio yet any discussion of the fumbled return that Crayton was flagged for kicking out of bounds.

On the replay TNEW was blown up and planted flat on his back. It just brings to the fore front what we are risking by having him return punts. Personally I still want him doing it, but he needs to know he can call a fair catch.

Anyone else concerned?

he sucks at it

I see no upside

people just need to get rid of his Kansas State game tape already, and forget about Newman returning punts

I don't like it.

He's too valuable as a cover man (and too fragile) to be put in that position.

Just let Crayton do it.

no he just needs a ton of room to do it

but is it worth him getting hit, and popping his knee? screw that, keep him in for D that's it

I agree. Why risk it when he has had injuries in the past and if he makes a mistake in catching and not fair catching we are screwed blue that day in the secondary.

Once he gets the ball in his hands he is good at it, but the safer option is definately Crayton. He doesnt drop them and he would not be nearly as big of a loss TNew would be if one got injured. Tnew is very dangerous with the ball in his hands tho. I personally like the rotation that Newman only returns it when the opponent is deep in their territory.

He nearly turned the ball over and got absolutely crushed for his efforts on his punt return yesterday. I dont see anything good that can come from it.

I'm against it. Yes he was a dominating returner at k-st. but we can't afford to take the injury risk.

I'm opposed to having him back there.

I don't like Crayton as a PR either, but given our other options, I guess stick with him. No Newman, though. Not worth the risk/

Definitely not worth it to risk your top cb. This has been bothering me for awhile because the Cowboys have needed a punt returner for a few years now, but they havn't really addressed this need via free agency or the draft. When Jerry explained this past draft that they were drafting players with special teams in mind, I would of thought they would of drafted a speed guy prospect to return punts. Jerry and co. need to address this problem eventually.

If he were a Deion Sanders caliber returner, I'd say it was worth the risk.

But he isn't and it isn't.
