"A couple of the most sensitive veterans from that defense, a pair of players who needed their egos stroked, signed one-year contracts with AFC teams to reunite with former Cowboys defensive coordinators. The Cowboys accomplished their goals of finding upgrades for Terence Newman and Bradie James, signing cornerback Brandon Carr and inside linebacker Dan Connor in the first week of free agency."

I have not seen this in print very often, but I have heard these types of comments about these 2 players on the Local Dallas Sports Talk Radio stations often.

IMO, there is more to being a Garrett Right Kind of Guy (RKG) than staying out of trouble and working hard.

Personally, the whole RKG quality is quickly becoming my least favorite thing to read about, on the Zone or anywhere.

As of now, it seems the only guys who are not RKGs are those who are not on the team anymore. Regardless of their tenure here and/or what they contributed.

On a side note, that comment alone is total TimMacMahon-driven BS, IMO, especially about Bradie.

No kidding. It's just plain lazy.

Bradie and Newman busted their tails the entire time they were here, especially Bradie who was the defensive leader. The only reason both those guys aren't still on the roster is because their skills diminished, if they could still play, they'd both still be here like every other guy Garrett has cut. Coaches like players that can play, that's it.

You said it better than I did.

While I believe Garrett has a philosophy on what he wants in players, but ultimately it comes down to whether the guy can play. If he can play and play well, then the guy's on the team. If he can't, he won't.

Will the 40 or so guys who get cut after training camp be cut because they're not RKGs? No, it'll be because they can't play.

Dear Count: You are among my favorites here. but I disagree about 1 little thing. While Newman did see his skills diminish over time, James played at a consistently adequate pace throughout his tenure here. Sure, he was among team leaders in tackles, but that comes with the position.
I never sensed that James was that talented. He was just . . . consistently adequate, that's all. also, if a player busts his tail, that is in the contract. It is a given. Give me a player who busts his tail AND always achieves and we have a winner.

Ok, maybe I sidetracked my own thread by adding the RKG part.

I have heard multiple local media guys on the radio make references to Bradie James being a Prima donna and Newman being overly sensitive to media questions.

I'm still just trying to understand which players were the biggest reasons for the team being considered weak-minded. It was widely considered that the defense on the 2010 team just quit on Wade Phillips. Newman and James were 2 of the more veteran players on that 2010 defense.

There was the James/Kitna episode that many considered childish:
"It has been two years since Jon Kitna harshly criticized Dallas Cowboys linebacker Bradie James, but those words apparently haven’t lost their sting.
And James acknowledged this week that he’s still holding a grudge against Kitna even though they’re teammates now."
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/07/10/kitnas-remarks-remain-a-sore-spot-for-bradie-james/

I can't speak about how those two players were perceived in the locker-room, but I think the biggest reason they aren't here is because they are no longer the players they were 3 years ago.

And Kitna was right about Brady James... A linebacker who couldn't cover Yeags. :D

Those guys aren't here b/c their skills deteriorated. Nothing more, nothing less.

Another hack job done by Tim MacMahon folks. I don't bother to read his articles anymore because of the garbage he writes. He's the one that tweeted about contacting Goodell about the collision involving Murray and Lee in the last OTA.

I couldn't agree more. It has gotten old very quickly. No one has left that can consistently make plays on the field. We can start giving credit to the RKG quality when we start winning some games. Otherwise, whatever quality type of players you have won't mean Jack u know what!

Yeah, I'm curious as well -- any new or veteran players on the team besides Dez that don't pass the RKG attitude/approach/action test?

Yea i'm so sick of the "let's bash player A since he's no longer here". I've never heard anything negative about Bradie or Newman. Like others have stated, their skills diminished. Its that simple. They worked hard and they were nothing but professionals here.

Tim Mcmahon is constantly throwing stuff and against the wall and hoping it will stick.

I have been saying bad things about James leadership and footspeed for quite some time. Pretty much ever since he made the Saints FB look like the second coming of Chuck Foreman in 2006.

Exactly. These 2 players were irritating some fans long before now. They are not getting "bashed" specifically because they're gone.

Of course not, they're gone now, so they were cancers.

What a joke. Parcells raved about both of those players and the work ethic they showed. Neither was a Tank or Pacman or even Marty B.

Thank you WG, Count, and others for some sanity on this incredibly overplayed meme.

(And I have no idea how the fact that Bradie can't cover says anything about his leadership abilities.)

Brooking stepped in here and immediately became THE defensive leader which is what James was supposed to be for years.

Newman subscribed to the RW31 tactic at pointing fingers at other guys, being sensitive to the media and pouting.

A number of fans pointed this out for years, so there's no revisionist history going on here.

I, personally, have maintained for years that there was something wrong with the core players and they were two of the key "leaders" of that core.

Yes, they played here for years, and I realize they have their fans, but let's not pretend that they brought something extraordinary to this team's legacy.

What is RKG?

I can only assume that it's short for "right kind of guy". Now, what that exactly is can be debated. To me, the RKG is the guy who's consistently competing and helping his team win more than a few games.

No way in hell Brady James wasn't the right kind of guy. He was a leader; he gave us all he had; he worked hard and played hard.

He just didn't have a ton of athletic ability to begin with, and everyone starts to lose it at some point.
