Newman note from Nate Newton

He was out at practice yesterday and he said Newman was ON yesterday. Said both Champ and Dre Bly were good corners and very tough, but TN was "all over it" and even the Denver coaches were talking about it.

Just FYI since there hasn't been a lot of news on him this camp. And it's kinda unusual for Nate to just volunteer info on cornerbacks.

One word = interceptions

That's what Newman needs to get in order to get the respect he wants and deserves.

It should be remembered that the reason Shanny was so high on getting a good CB (like going after Champ) was because he seen what a defense could do with a good CB. The CB that was mentioned at that time that he was talking about was our very own Newman.

I agree and I think he will. Zimmer liked his CBs to really follow the WR and play the WR. From what I saw in TC, the CBs are playing the QB and ball a lot more this year. When you couple that with what we hope is increased pressure, I think the opportunity to get some picks for all our DBs will be there.

Yep, Nate said one play in particular was Newman breaking on and undercutting a route. I think there will be more aggressive plays on the ball this year.

BTW, he's now saying that Ware was unblockable, and Canty and Ratliff looked good. They're also trying all kinds of nickel combinations.

I would just like to see TNew make the Pro Bowl this year......with some ints.

Yeah the article basically said Dallas had invested in their secondary and it appears Newman is well on his way to the Pro Bowl.

A classic example of TNew needing to step up his game to be an elite, Pro Bowl player is the game against the Broncos a couple of years ago when he broke on Plummer's pass in the 4th quarter and had the ball in his hands for what would have been a sure TD return but he dropped it. The Broncos went on in that drive to tie the game and then eventually win it.

I remember saying on this board after that game, (and catching some heat for it), that those were the plays that seperate the good corners from the elite guys like Champ Bailey. Bailey picks that ball and takes it to the end zone and the game is over.

TNew needs to make those type of plays this year and get to that level. I wonder if it would help him if he would just work on drills catching the ball like a receiver?

I remember having the exact same feelings, and hopefully I said it then.

I think Nate Newton was being a bit homeristic to call Newman a better CB than Champ Bailey. He is the best in the game, hands down IMO.

Yeah Champ Bailey is the best CB in the NFL, Newman has to show up and make more plays to be considered at his level. I have a feeling we'll see more playmaking from Newman this year.

Whoa, he didn't say that Newman was better. Just that he was playing really well and making plays in the practice.

That's what Newman needs to get in order to get the respect (of the dimwited and clueless fans) that he deserves.

Fixed it for ya.

He already has the respect of the ones that matter. ;)

Those that really understand the game (people like Wade, Shanahan and others) know Newman is an ELITE CB. Only the stupid and the moronic think that INTS is what it is all about.

To me, that implied that Newman was better.

and to think Wash gave him up for Portis, lol.....But in Hindsight, Champ was a good CB at the time and I really thought that Portis was gonna be a game breaker with Wash, even though RB don't tend to do the much better when traded....

The only difference between TNew and Bailey is INT's. End of Story.
