I'm a Cowboys fan here in Seattle. I hear Trufant this Trufant that since he went to Washington State as well. Do you think most personnel directors / GM's would take TNew or TFant? I know they got similar salaries and signing bonuses (http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/story/655787.html). I know that Trufant is younger though.

Anyone objective want to weigh in on why you would choose one over the other?

It depends on what you want.

Do you want a gambler like Sheppard and Samuel? A guy who's going to give up alot of plays but will get burned his fair share as well?

Or do you want a guy who is going to consistently take away his man. Maybe not make as many big plays, but on a regular basis he takes one side of the field away, allows few catches and is a solid tackler.

The trouble with Trufant is, he wasn't even good at the gambling until last season. It was more like, he was good at staying really close to his man, but generally allowing the catch anyway. A pretty sure tackler.

if Trufant keeps his current level of play up, with his age, you have to say that you'd prefer having Trufant on your team. Newman has been playing at the same level since he came into the league. I'm more confident giving him this money, than I would be Trufant, who may have been working for the week-day?, in that he played that well in a season he stood to earn alot of money. Maybe he falls back to where he was, you know?

Newman's a better athlete and has been a better player for all but *possibly* except last year. Trufant had a few years where he really struggled -- they even moved him over to right corner from left.

Age is the only reason you'd prefer Trufant, but I think that's overrated. T.O. didn't look like he was slowing down last year, did he?

Wow, lemme think of the answers ...

Who's better? Newman or Trufant?

Answer: Newman.

Why?

Cuz he's a Cowboy.

Trufant s*cks.

Why?

Cuz he's not a Cowboy.

Sounds like the arguments I used to here in JHS.

Too bad you spent more time arguing in JHS than attending english class.

Whatever.

Newman rules cause he's a Cowboy.

I bet 80 thousand fans in Qwest Field would disagree.

It's all POV.

Oh.. and what people don't factor in many times is the type of person Newman is on and off the field. If you go to training camp this year, watch Newman, you'll come away a fan of how he handles himself and treats others around him. I think part of what made me a fan of his was watching how he would always be joking around with the kids that came to watch practice. He's been a professional since day one and you've never had to worry about what he was doing or if he would be prepared.
