His rookie year.....did we move him around more (as in shadowing #1 WR's) moreso than he did the past two years?

It seems like we did, but maybe we didn't and teams didn't move their number ones around as much as now that they know what he is.

Hmmm... I don't think I recall seeing that. I remember them playing alot of man that year. And folks talking about how Dallas puts alot of pressure on their CBs with the amount of blitzes they called, surprisingly so for having a rookie on one side.

I'm trying to think what other CBs were on the roster besides Newman and Mario Edwards.

No we used to keep Newman in one spot.

Now we move him around a lot more.

Usually he follows the teams best receiver around and he covers the slot guy in Nickle situations (which is one of the hardest jobs to do in football).

You're mostly right. He doesn't "usually" follow the other team's best receiver, but he does sometimes. I don't recall us ever playing matchup defense with our cornerbacks in his ifrst two seasons.

There is no cornerback who always follows the No. 1 receiver. Some cornerbacks do it more than others -- and some never do it -- but it's not a very common thing.

The one thing about Newman in his rookie year is that they seemed to trust him a lot more. I remember a whole bunch of times where they would put him on an island and send the house

His rookie year he was pretty good and only gave up 2 Touchdowns the entire season.

1 was against Keyshawn Johnson and the other was against Steve Smith in the playoffs on an amazing catch.

His 2nd year was horrible though and what we didn't know was he played the entire season with an injury that slowed him down but nobody spoke about it until the season was over.

Do you have a link for that?

So he gave up one td his rookie year. How many his second year? 0 in his third. 3 in his fourth....

Derek Ross and Pete Hunter were the two 3rd corners on the team. Ross was slowed early by injuries, so Hunter played quite a bit. Ross then took over when healthy. He then got cut. I think that occurred before the Thanksgiving game.

I am with you.

I was a huge Newman critic the 1st 2 years and remember a little differently.

I love how he has been playing as of recent but he was not the same guy his 1st year or 2.

Even if the TDs allowed were down I remember him giving up other stuff such as many catches and more penalties than now.

His injury and a sophomore slump was the problem his second year- I noticed, though, late in the season he was playing better. He was GREAT last year and was totally robbed of ALL PRO and pro bowl. Last year he was frankly the best CB in football. This year he slipped some but was still I think #2 or #3. Champ was clearly the best this year.

Besides the "3 little blind mice" that reffed the Seattle game he was fine all year with flags.
