Cowboys LCB Terence Newman will have arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle after suffering the injury against the Eagles in Week 17.

It was the final blow in an injury-plagued season for Newman, who missed five games with a mid-season sports hernia surgery.

man, newman sure is injury prone now

How many injuries has he had?

I can think of maybe three total. His knee in his second year, the foot thing and now a cleanup of his ankle. WOW he's really injury prone

I forgot about that one. He's been pretty solid IMO.

yup, Newman is one of the Studs on this team. Leads by example, which the rest of the team needs to pay attention too, including the Head Coach. (sorry, I'm in a bash-the-coach mode today)

He's been plagued the last two seasons with injuries but over the course of his career he hasn't had these issues.

Hopefully the injury bug has run it's course with him now.

I think the groin was actually the hernia, and if not he pulled his groin with his body probably trying to compensate for the hernia.

Beware of re-signing older players to long-term deals - Jerry still hasn't learned his lesson here. They usually become injured or underperform. He needs to learn when to let his players leave - NE and Philly have done this for years with success.

I bet 15 guys on this team will have some kind of minor scope in the next couple of weeks -- just like with every other NFL team.

Total non-story.

Newman needs to rest this off-season and take it easy until the season starts. I want him 100 hundred percent healthy.

Which is why Philadelphia still has Donovan McNabb, still has Brian Dawkins, among other players.

Oh, and why New England still has Mike Vrabel, Tedi Bruschi, Rodney Harrison, among others. Oh and that's why they even signed and brought in Junior Seau and John Lynch too (even though he was cut).

Yeah, NE really doesn't sign older players.

Are you forgetting the whole groin thing that kept him out a significant portion of this year?

How anyone can hide from the fact that he HAS been extremely injury prone the past couple of years is beyond me. Am I saying we need to get rid of him? No way, he is a true talent. But let's not pretend he isn't injury prone.

Does this mean if we had made the playoffs that Newman would not have been available? We already know Romo couldn't go if we needed him. Looks like it would've been one and done anyway.

New England is guilty of keeping older linebackers past their usefulness mainly because Bill has always been of the mind that you need older, veteran, linebackers to make his defense go.

I believe Mayo probably has changed his mind on that a bit this season.

And the Eagles keep McNabb and Dawkins around because they still make plays for them. But that's two players out of a whole lot who've been allowed to walk when they got older.

Troy Vincent, Trotter, Bobby Taylor, etc. These were all guys who were play makers for them that the Eagles had no issue with letting go. There are other examples, I'm sure, that I'm forgetting. Like Jon Runyun, I beleive he was a standout tackle for them that they let go once he got up in age and wanted too much money.
