NEWMAN - What is his deal

Is he a great or good corner. I know, they never throw is way blah blah blah. EVERY game I wait for him to make a game changing play, but it never happens. I know he is not the problem but I was really hoping he would develop into a player that could change the outcome of the game.

Nobody is in Champs class. He is the #1 rated corner, barnone. T-New is solid, but he needs to make the most of the opportunities he does get. Champ doesn't see too many balls his way either, but when they do come, he makes the QB pay.

TNew plays the way he is coached. Tnew is a guy that is very solid but he will not take chances either. Most of the time, when you see these guys making the game changing play, it is because they took a chance and jumped a route or something like that.. of course, if you miss, it goes for a TD most of the time. Tnew and this entire D is not a risk taking group. They play fundemental defense and try to just make the tackle. I think Tnew is the 2nd best corner in Football, but he will never get the props as long as this is the Defense we play.

I believe you have a valid point......I also like TNew, and maybe our coaches are doing a poor job putting him in position to make a game changing play

Tnew has been taught- CORRECTLY- that his FIRST responsibility is to STOP receptions. Champ is about the ONLY CB in the NFL with fewer TD's given up vs INTs and TDs scored by him. As far as I can tell- no other starting CB is on the plus side of that ledger- including Newman, who is probably #2.
I would MUCH RATHER have someone that stops passes FIRST then someone who keeps taking chances and is lucky to be right 1/3 of the time. See Jones, Hall, etc.

You need to take a look at the other corner...namely Henry.

Henry has had a terrible 3 game stretch!

Newman is playing well. He'd have more interceptions if the defense was getting more pressure on QBs.

now somebody is talking my talk. I love Newman...absolutley love him....but I for one will not keep crying about him NOT making the Pro Bowl. Make A PLAY. ANY PLAY. Take a punt back....blitz from the slot and sack the QB to stop a scoring drive. But you cannot call for guys who make NO PLAYs to be Pro Bowlers. They didn't throw at Deion much...but you ALWAYS knew he played...we go entire games without hearing Newmans name more than once or twice.

I too was a bit surprised to see a thread calling out Newman. He is so far down the list of problems we have, this is a totally pointless thread.

Newman plays zone and starts 10 yards off the receiver almost every play. This isn't by choice, it's by Mike Zimmer. If you have a great cornor, why do you cripple him by playing him in this fashon?

Roy and James have there own thread, so does Henry. It's only "logical" to move onto someone else. I'm starting a "we should cut our long snapper" thread this afternoon.
