Ron Meeks has resigned after seven seasons as Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator. The team announced the move Tuesday, eight days after coach Tony Dungy retired. Dungy hired Meeks in 2002.

The Colts led the NFL in scoring defense in 2007 but dropped to seventh last season and were eliminated from the AFC playoffs in the first round by San Diego.

The 54-year-old Meeks began his NFL coaching career with Dallas in 1991 as a defensive assistant. He later coached with Cincinnati, Atlanta, Washington and the Rams.

Thought it'd be an interesting resignation since he's got a Dallas tie, and we need a DC.

I'm sure no body will like it since he coached the 4-3, Colts weren't a powerhouse defense, and he's not some superstar name, but I think Jerry might take a peek and see what's going on there.

I think a guy who served under Dungy for so long must have absorbed some of his wisdom, wouldn't mind having some of that around here.

Word from PFT was that he was fired, but given the opportunity to seek other work. He "resigned" instead.

Figures. Maybe the Colts plan to move away from the Tampa 2 or felt the defense was Dungy's creation to begin with.

No tampa 2 guys. K. thx. Bye.

Wade is still the chief architect of our defense like Dungy was the chief architect of the Tampa 2 there. Wade's going to have as much control over the D next year as he had at the end of this year, so you just need a guy that can teach and help game plan.

When Parcells left we should have promoted Sparano to HC.

No, we shouldn't have. He was coach of the offensive line that collapsed against the Giants, and he looked just as pathetic as Garrett wehn Bledsoe was in. In Miami, it was the work of Davi Yee that introduced the Wildcat formation that brought some success to Miami, otherwise they were also looking pathetic offensively. Plus, their schedule was absolutely pathetic, facing teams like the Bills and Jets, that went on to lose over 4 games in a row each, I believe.

The Colts never drafted a lot of talent on D, and they often missed when they tried.

I just don't see us going back to a 3-4 at this point.

let's put the anointing oil down for sparano till we see how he does again, shall we?

we tend to forget garrett was a can't let go last year now no one wants him.

yet, see 1 good year out of sparano, he's all that and a bucket of chicken.

LOL. The Sparano love is awesome here. I imagine you all wished we'd promoted Payton too after his first season.

Classic.

As for Meeks I could see him back in Tampa cause they need a DC I believe. I don't think anyone has filled the spot left by Kiffin going to Tennessee.

No one is anointing Sparano.. The best thing i think this organazation could of done is have Garrett at OC, Wade at DC, and Sparano at HC. The current situation isn't looking good and i have seen enough after two years. Sparano would do something these coaches can't do. Hold Romo accountable for his mistakes.

I was probably one of the few in Cowboys nation that knew Sparano was a decent coach while he was with Dallas. I was sad to see him leave this past off-season.

Funny how Jerry has everyone acclimated to him making the coaching staff hires. People don't even think twice about it anymore.

Well, we need someone to come in and teach the secondary and LBs how to play a zone. Maybe that way we could get some pics. Meeks would not be a bad hire if only for that. We all know Wade's defense will always apply some heat to the QB but we need turnovers and the secondary regressed horribly under Campo. It appears that when we are in a zone, receivers run free regardless of who we're playing. Painful to watch last season...
