Are the Cowboys big hypocrites for chasing suspended cornerback Pacman Jones after he wasn’t even on their draft board in 2005?

NEW DAWG: Let me quote the greatest hypocrite in our sports market, Tom Hicks: “Things change.” And 2005 is ancient history, Ray. Three years ago, people thought President Bush was doing a good job, now they don’t. Pacman will come pretty cheap and the Cowboys have to start getting ready to let Terence Newman hit the road after the season. Newman will be 30 when the season starts, so he can forget that five- or six-year deal from the Cowboys he wants. Trading for Pacman and using a first-round draft pick allows the Cowboys to get younger at the cornerback position. Come on, Ray, let’s make it rain!

BUCK: Rain? I think that’s a recipe for flushing the future. No, I don’t think the Cowboys are hypocrites; they’re just reacting to NO PLAYOFF VICTORIES SINCE 1996. Desperate people do desperate things. Pacman was, is and always will be a mistake.

Is DeMarcus Ware worth Dwight Freeney money?

NEW DAWG: Yes. Ware is a monster and the Cowboys had better lock him up long term. At 25, Ware is coming into his own and should be compensated like Freeney.

BUCK: It will be the best “Freeney Money” -- $72 million with $30 million guaranteed -- Jerry Jones has ever spent. You’ve heard of speed receivers who can’t be overthrown? Well, Ware can’t be overpaid.

He was off the draft board because his issues were not worth a high first round pick and a large contract

This will cost a low pick and small contract

Its not hipocrisy its smart business

Question: does being "off their draft board" mean that he wasn't on it anywhere within the seven picks or that he wasn't on the Cowboys first-round draft board?

That makes a big difference.

Be that as it may, I don't consider it hypocrisy (and I don't want them to sign PacMan) because no one really knows the reason why he wasn't on the board and all the nuisances associated with that decision.

It could have been a situation where Jerry Jones said, "PacMan is talented but at this time, he's not what we need for the Cowboys."

Such a statement makes the acquisition of PacMan less hypocritical than a statement that says, "He's a bad seed. No way he wears a Cowboys uniform."

I don't believe Newman will get a 5 or 6 year deal... He should be happy with with a four year deal honestly.

Ware is going to get sick money!

Ware will be resigned by Dallas and I'm sure it will happen at some point during the 09 season so that he never even has a shot to sniff FA. He's going to get an enormous deal when he does resign.

Yes! Signing Pacman is hypocrisy. For years JJ has talked about cleaning up the teams image and signing "character" guys. We've all screamed about cleaning up sports in general and the NFL specifically. How can we do all this and still say signing a true thug is NOT hypocrisy. Say no to Pacman. I'd rather lose without him than win with him.

Maybe it's me, but I don't get that at all. None of it.

I think he's worth more, in fact I'm going to bet Jerry will make him the highest paid defensive player in the league.

I'm with you sfb, but most of the posters on here agree that he's worth it if there's low risk. IMO, if he's on the roster, we're risking that spot that could be taken up by someone that doesn't jeopardize his team by making immature, foolish and illegal decisions. I'd rather go CB early and often in the draft and get true Cowboys than give this guy a 6th or 7th chance.

Why does he assume Newman is finished after the season?
I've seen no signs of deteriorating skills.
I figure he still has 3 good seasons left in him. And, yes, that is an assumption, too, but a better one than his, IMHO.
