50) Cliff Harris

» Safety
» 1970-79 (Dallas Cowboys)
» Eligible for Seniors Committee

Originally we had my NFL Media colleague and former Cowboys personnel director Gil Brandt in the Class of 2021, but as stated previously, it's looking more and more like the good folks who run the Pro Football Hall of Fame will come up with a new method for inducting contributors. So consider former Cowboys safety Cliff Harris, a player Brandt scouted at tiny Ouachita Baptist, a solid candidate for the Seniors Committee vote. Harris was an All-Decade performer in the 1970s and, according to Paul Zimmerman of Sports Illustrated, the best combination of a cover-hitter to play the safety position.

20) Chuck Howley
» Linebacker
» 1958-59 (Chicago Bears), 1961-73 (Dallas Cowboys)
» Eligible for Seniors Committee

I was speaking with legendary Cowboys executive Gil Brandt at the enshrinement ceremonies over the weekend, and we both came to the conclusion that something in the football universe has gone awry. Howley must get into football's most illustrious fraternity at some point. How about the weekend prior to Super Bowl L? In the year leading up to the special anniversary Super Sunday, fans and more voters will be constantly reminded of the only player from a losing team to be named Super Bowl MVP, which he accomplished in Super Bowl V. He also played well in Super Bowl VI, which his Cowboys actually won. This five-time first-team All-Pro played at a high level through his mid-30s.

Terrell Davis in the Hall of Fame is just laughable. Total system back, had 3 "great" years and 1 decent one. Selection should be based partially on longevity. Would you consider Chris Johnson a HOF back right now? Nope.

It's the classic "peak vs. career" argument, but I'm with you on this one. Outside his first four seasons, there's just nothing there in TD's career: 17 games over 4 more seasons, with a 3.8 YPA and 4 TDs? Five average seasons instead of that collapse and he's in for sure. But no, he doesn't belong.

The list goes through 2021, meaning guys would have to retire before 2016 to be eligible. Will either Witten or Ware call it quits after 3 more seasons? Seems unlikely.

Really? Sheesh, how many more years to you think Witten really has? Believe me, I would love to see him performing at a high level for 3+ years, but I just don't see it. Hope I'm wrong.

I think he'll play out this contract then get a 4-5 year contract that is voidable after the 2nd year. I expect him to play until 36-37.

He doesn't have to be playing at a high level to linger for another year or two. Yeah, there's a decent chance that Witten will retire after 2015, but I don't think I'd put it as high as 50/50. And I'd be shocked if Ware is done that early.

In this salary cap age, yeah he does. Urlacher could still play but not nearly the same level and not at the expense he would be to the team. So they cut him. They cut one of the most popular figures in team history.

He got the two most deserving Cowboys right, and in the right order, too.

But, he also has 8 defensive backs going in all within a 5-year period, and that ain't gonna happen.

It shouldn't be about "peak vs. career". A Hall of Famer should have both in my opinion. Davis had the peak, but not the long career. Jerome Bettis had no real peak, but had a long career. Neither is a HoFer in my opinion. Payton, Smith, Faulk, Martin, LT and others had both peaks and long careers and are true Hall of Fame running backs.

I was about to make a thread about who would be the next COwboys HOFer (since we'd had one member 8 of the last 10 of so classes) welp I guess I dont need to do that anymore

Ok so the Triplets are in, as is Larry Allen.....any chance that Newton, Tuinei, or Step sniff the HOF or even the ROH. I know Big E would have if not for the injury, but his foolishness cost him and the team more greatness.
