So Brown is a better CB than Diggs?
Next Gen Stats just lost all credibility in my eyes...

Consistent but not necessarily better. diggs taking chances did get him burned some. brown almost always where he needed to be like carr was just needs to do a better job deflecting or catching the pass.

Trevon diggs was off the list because he didnt have over 20% forced tight window throws. But he was better in every category they list for anthony brown.

Tight window is a fairly poor metric. It only means a cornerback can stay close to a receiver. We've had plenty of corners who could stick with a receiver only to have the ball completed right over their head. If you can't play the ball, quarterbacks are going to drop it in there and receivers are going to catch it.

If they are going to use tight window as a measure, it needs to be only a very minor part of the picture.

One notable player who did not make the top 10: Dallas Cowboys standout Trevon Diggs. His performance has already attracted plenty of debate, as not everyone sees him as a true blanket corner. He certainly uses his excellent closing speed and ball skills to make plays on passes. That showed in his passer rating allowed (60.9), ballhawk rate (24.4 percent) and targeted expected points added (-23.3, the fourth-best mark in the NFL). The latter two metrics were heavily impacted by his ability to force turnovers (posted a league-best 11 interceptions).

This is what happens when "ratings" are more-or-less predetermined based on specific metrics and then a player comes along who breaks the algorithm.

"Oh, he was really good and probably Top 5, but I don't like how he did it so I'm not going to count him".

Just let the numbers fall where they may and move on. Nobody is going to care if Diggs rates differently (and he likely will based on lesser INTs in the future) in the future.

Coverage skills seems to be more important. Looking at Deion Sanders' career, the highest single season # of INTs he got was 7 when he was with the Falcons. The most INTs in a season he got playing for the Cowboys was 5. That is less than half that Diggs got for us last season. The difference why Deion was so good was his coverage skills. Deion could shut down half of the DB backfield while helping shut down an opposing team's passing game, thus why Deion was known for being among the best shutdown CBs in the NFL. Diggs ended up being the worst last year in terms of giving up passing yards. Not good.
It's amazing that some folks knock Deion when he was to this point the only true shut down corner to play the game. If you are starting a team he's one of the top 2 players you would want.

He is going to be an interesting case come second deal time.

Especially if Joseph and/or Wright can establish themselves as legit starters.

Diggs is a fan favorite and of course we would want to keep him, but can't pay everyone big money. Between Dak and what Parsons is gonna get, and a few others.....Diggs is going to be a tough call. But that's for then. For now we got him.
Agreed 100%.

1) That showed in his passer rating allowed (60.9), ballhawk rate (24.4 percent) and targeted expected points added (-23.3, the fourth-best mark in the NFL).
2) But Diggs isn't on this list because he failed to meet the tight-window percentage requirement (Diggs' rate was 16.3%; needed at least 20% to qualify).

Should tell him that his "tight-window percentage" is a bogus stat, and even more bogus is setting an arbitrary threshold on it to even be considered.

Like others stated the article used specific areas under coverage for its calculations. Diggs play style will not be suited for those parameters. I mean the dude gave up the most passing yards.

Brown is the more consistent coverage CB. Diggs imo is two fold. He will either shutdown the top WR or gamble and get burned.

passer rating allowed (60.9)

Life is full of tradeoffs. By one of the main standard metrics that we judge QBs by, Diggs is stopping QBs.

targeted expected points added (-23.3, the fourth-best mark in the NFL).

By their own metric that they judge everything by, EPA, Diggs is 4th in the league.

This is just a massive analytical fail by Next Gen Stats.

The big story here is not their analytical fail on Diggs, but the robust data that Brown isn't the bum a lot of people make him out to be. He's a quality corner, at a discount price.

CB is a position of strength.

Again this year, DT is our major weakness.
Shocker.

No way, Brown can't be good, he just can't no way. I've built my entire belief system over the thought that he sucks, so he sucks and that is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"He SUX" is especially likely with CBs, who will generally \make highlight reels more often as the loser than the winner.

On your "shocker" about DTs being our weakness again, I admit I'm a little surprised we did squat.
McCarthy had the biggest attempt in years with McCoy and Poe. Got Gallimore that year in the 3rd too. And it really seemed to me that we had filled out the defense pretty well.
If not this year, when?
Maybe they just don't plan on getting balanced run/pass DTs anymore. NTs and pass rush DTs. Works until you hit a team with good run/pass balance in their base personnel.

I think its a dumb metric too.

Unless someone can tell me how many times an opposing offense scored TDs on Diggs because he gave up a lot of yards, the yards stat is meaningless when you're an INT machine.

He can be and he is. It's that simple. He's just not elite.

Giving up a lot of yards means you'll lose in the playoffs. It's played out that way over and over and over.
