Jan 14th 1996 was the last time the Cowboys sniffed an NFC championship game. They would go on the beat the Steelers in that Super Bowl. The next 30 years would provide a 5-13 playoff record reaching the Divisional game 7 times and losing all 7.

Since then 7 different head coaches have coached this team and 12 different QBs have started games during that span. Most of those QBs were aging castoffs like Testaverde, Bledsoe and Cunningham. Bad picks like Quincy Carter or reclamation projects like Ryan Leaf, Chad Hutchinsion and Drew Henson. We got lucky with Romo an UDFA and Prescott a 4th round surprise.

What gives you any hope that some how Jerry or Stephen Jones has the ability to build a championship caliber team after 30 years of misersbly failing so hard year after year? We havent had real talent evaluators in our scouting department since Jim Garrett and Gil Brandt in the late 80s early 90s and have spent zero first round picks on a QB since 1989. We've only had 6 top 10 picks in the past 30 years, five years we had no first round pick at all thanks to dumb trades like Joey Galloway and Roy Williams.

What gives anyone hope at this point?

Even a blind squirrel finds a acorn

Does not apply to Jerry. He's so bad that he cannot find an acorn even after 30 years of total control. Only a 1.8% chance to fail that bad for anyone on Earth.
How did you come up with 1.8%?

How did you come up with 1.8%?
Math geeks ran the numbers. It's been posted here already a number of times.

"Using probability theory and doing a sequential calculation assuming each season is a random event, the probability of randomly making the conference finals at least once after 30 consecutive seasons is 98.2%. Or if you want to put a negative spin on it, the probability of a team not randomly lucking their way into a conf finals after 30 seasons is only 1.8%. If making the conference finals is an indicator, Jerry is so bad at GM he can't even dumb luck his way into a conference finals after 3 decades. By the way, the coin flip (50 percent threshold) for randomly making the conference finals is approximately once every 5 seasons. In other words, a competent GM would be expected to make the conf finals at least a few times over a 3 decade time span."

Bob Sturm reported on it recently.

Edit to add the reminder that every other NFC team has been to a CCG at least once since 2010 while Jerry hasn't managed his team to one in 30 years - twice as long as the next longest NFC drought which is the Bears at 15 years.

Except each season is not a random event for one. But it doesn’t change the fact of the matter.

Using random events is actually boosting the numbers for Jerry. The fact that he is actively building the team means it's even far worse than what the numbers say since a coin flip would be highly likely to outperform Jerry.

Pure random chance is a better GM than an active Jerry Jones with a plan.

And also:

This is very strong evidence. It bears out what the math says quite clearly.

What gives me hope is our heavenly Creator. Period. If we've learned anything from the last 30 years it's this, do not put your faith in man. It's misguided and a fools errand. So with our cowboys I've simply resigned myself to the brutal truth, that if we do win a SB someday, it most likely won't be til I'm long gone from this world in physical form. In the meantime, I follow the team not because of Jerry or the Joneses, but because of those by which built the foundation of America's team, you know who they are. Their would be no Jerry Jones owning this team if we weren't so well run for decades prior. Jerry is a gnat on a cows behind in the scheme of it all. It is what it is. I'm not going to abandon our beloved team all because of the Jones family. I do it because we owe it to the Others that came before. This is essentially my response to Big and Little enos' presser yesterday. We owe those 2 nothing. I tuned them out. Meanwhile, go Cowboys!!

Yeah I’m not disputing the fundamental argument here.

The only hope I have is that at Jerry's age he will be stepping down soon.

12 QBs to start a game seems way way too low. I think it's a lot more.
