Next year in the uncapped year, I have a feeling their is going to be a HUGE player reshuffle. What I believe is going to happen is a lot of players are going to get the AXE during the uncapped season. Why? Because all the accelerated bonus money when these players are cut will hit in the uncapped season and there will be zero dead money for those bad contracts.
What does this mean? This coming season is a contract year for ALL players. Every single player can get the AXE after next season. (of course guaranteeing $40+ million to Fat Albert would be hard to eat the following year even in an uncapped year)
The way I understand it, you can't just sign players to giant contracts next season either because of what I believe is the 30% rule that says salaries can't exceed a 30% difference year over year. (please correct me if I'm wrong) That means, you can't pay a guy $30M in the uncapped year and $5M in the following year so it doesn't kill the cap the following year.
We already see the cuts this year. (Tampa, Bills, Jets, Oakland, etc) Huge recent contracts made within the last two years and being eaten by teams. Why? Because of cap space and players not playing up to their pay level. (ie not completely dominating their position)
Now, this is the way I understand it though it might not be completely correct. (any corrections would be appreciated)
I think if played right, there are a huge opportunity between now and the start of next season.
