NFC East Position Rankings: How Do We Stack Up?

Initially, I wanted to look at all the starters and see how we compared with our NFC East rivals, but there are still several position battles and I don't know enough about our foes to make guesses about that. Instead, I'm going to look at each teams best player at each of the main positions. I am going to use rotisserie type scoring where the top ranked player gets 4 points, and the worst player gets 1 point. Let's do this.

Hey thanks for posting this for the rest of the board. It is good to see the Cowboys do have an edge in talent in the NFC East.

good analysis.
what this type of thing leaves out, though, is how much better a certain team's position is over another. for example, Tony is BY FAR the best QB in the division (and that's also the most important position on a team).

Fun stuff.

Not to split hairs but
This leaves out several starters (unless it means to lump LT and RT, or all LBs, or all CBs, or all S, or especially all WRs.
It also values, for example, TE the same as QB

I didn't even look at the thread and I see our advantages as:

QB
Offensive line
WR (including TE)
Kicker

The defense may be better this year and may rank as the best among the NFC East, particularly on the defensive line and linebackers, but I'm not ready to give them the nod just yet.

this is a cute article for rah rah of the team. But it doesnt tell you much. its a stand alone article. what we should do if you want to do this and really get into it, you have to look at all the positions on a football team. Some of us know Eli won a superbowl due to a stellar defense. I think our running backs will do better because of the offensive line compared to just their talent. Can Bradford play in any scheme or can Chip get more out of him than Fisher could have? What position helps the Skins be good? So far the only bright spots i see on Washington, is Hazlett (whos not the best but does have Romos number) and Callahan. Which positions are better because of coaches?

Yeah, it strikes me as a skewed assessment of assets, at best.

A significant omission is the lack of unit grades, i.e, the OL. 2 O-lineman do not come close to projecting the success of the unit as a whole.

Same with LB's, secondary, etc.

These grades would indicate that the NFCE is a toss-up between the Sheagles and Dem Boys.

We'll see how that plays out, but I would bet that by year's end we'll be looking for another trophy while the folks in Phiwwy are looking for another coach.

I agree with some of the rankings but some make me scratch my head. A few changes I would make:

OFFENSIVE TACKLE
  1. Peters
  2. Smith
  3. Williams
  4. Beatty
GUARD
  1. Mathis
  2. Martin
  3. Pugh
  4. Scherff
CENTER
  1. Frederick
  2. Kelce
  3. Lichtensteiger
  4. Richburg
EDGE RUSHER
  1. Hardy
  2. Kerrigan
  3. Graham
  4. Pierre-Paul
LINEBACKER
  1. McClain
  2. Kendricks
  3. Beason
  4. Robinson
CORNERBACK
  1. Scandrick
  2. Rodgers-Cromartie
  3. Culliver
  4. Maxwell
SAFETY
  1. Jenkins
  2. Church
  3. Goldson
  4. Collins
Most of these rankings are based off of the film I watched from last season. I think PHI's OT/OG are slightly better than ours but Smith/Martin are 24 while Peters/Mathis are 33. I think Graham is a better pass rusher than Barwin. I thought Graham was better overall in both of our games last season. I looked up Grahams' stats and he had 10 more hurries than Barwin yet played 522 less snaps. I think Alonso and Lee are both very good players but they are coming off of serious injuries so I ranked the guys who played well last season. I think the writer gives too much credit to Maxwell. The idea is cool but the total points don't mean much.

Almost as good as the Boys being the best in the division, the Commanders are the worst, by a far margin. Both these makes me happy.
