The road to the playoffs always begin with winning the NFC East first. After drafting Zeke, it's clear that we will go back to punching teams in the mouth this year, just like 2014, by running the ball.

I got to thinking, what does the NFC East look like stopping the run? Here's what I found out:

NFC East Team - Rank - Rushing Yards Allowed

'boys - 22nd - 1,934 yards
Giants - 24th - 1,942 yards
Skins - 26th - 1,962 yards
Eagles - 32nd - 2,153 yards

That being said, I fully expect us to rush our way to the NFC East crown, and beyond.

Interesting figures.

I think YPC is more meaningful but I understand the point.

Personally I feel the ultimate success of the team will be how efficiently they pass the ball and defend the pass... And that doesn't mean overall yardage, but efficiency.

Should be the best rushing attack theyve had in years...given that elliott actually knows how to carry the ball. I hope they lean a but on morris and dmc in the early to mid part of the season to keep elliott fresh for december and january. Hopefully they learned that running a back into the ground doesnt just throw away their production in the following year, but devastates in the short term too.

The beautiful part? The run will also set up our pass. I'd argue our passing game will be stronger than 2014, which will compliment our stout running game: Cole Beastly has emerged, I expect Brice Butler to supplant Terrence Williams, Witt will be solid as usual, and Dez will come back with a vengeance.

I'm excited Zoners!

Think Elliot is good for 5ypc with this oline...he might not be explosive and as shifty as a back like Gurley but his running style suits the offensive line.

I would never describe Gurley as 'Shifty'. I believe Zeke has him there.

I also believe them both to be about the same speed.

I think the only place Todd has him is in power...

gurley blows elliott out the water in terms of speed and explosiviness.

I don't think these teams have done much to improve their rushing defenses in the offseason.

The Giants on paper, probably improved the most. but nothing to make them jump to a top 10, maybe break into top 20, maybe.

Phi 4.5 tied 26
Was 4.8 tied 30
Nyg 4.4 tied 24
Dal 4.2 tied 19

This and the op's stats say dallas had the best rushing defense in the east but still 22 overall is below avg.

Zeke can moves piles, and push his way for TD's and 1st downs. He does more than break long TD runs....:D
And you are right, he is more shifty than some believe, and finding those creases. He makes quick cuts.
Speed, yes about same, but maybe Gurley has a bit more, I havn't looked at 40 times, but also there is game speed with defenders chasing you, taking the right angles. But that remains to be seen, Zeke vs. NFL speedier defenders and they too, taking the right angles.
My bet is Zeke wins more than he loses on those plays.

Keep in mind the Eagles defense faced more plays than any other in the division.

Right, and were more worn down later in the games. Something to consider. With a more conventional offense, their defense may play better.
If that reasoning works for us, it works for them too.
