The Commanders left RFK after the 1996 season.
The Eagles left The Vet after the 2002 season.
The Cowboys left Texas Stadium after last season.
The Giants have just played their last game in Giants Stadium.

Tom Landry never coached in any of next season's NFC East stadiums. Neither did Jimmy Johnson, at least not as a Cowboys coach.

I don't miss these old stadiums (especially The Vet), but I am struck by how many memories took place in those old places.

The two old stadiums that I do miss:

1. Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Football Cardinals - The sunlight played through the stadium's arches in an interesting way.

2. Metropolitan Stadium, former home of the Vikings - There were some truly great winter weather games played there.

I used to love watching those old December/January games in the snow covered Met. That was football.

I did also. One of my best Cowboys memories, was the Hail Mary game, played at the Met.

Me too. Just a great childhood memory. Still give me chills thinking about it.

I saw the Giants new stadium, it looks like it could be the out house for Cowboys Stadium.

I should know this and could look it up... But I know the Twins are moving into a new outdoor stadium next year. Is it baseball-only, or will the Vikes play there, too? Anyone know?

And one of my very earliest Cowboys memories is of playing in St. Louis. They always made us wear our blue jerseys, and although they weren't that good (IIRC), Jim Hart and Roy Green always gave us fits.

The Vikings have been demanding a new stadium for the while (Metrodome is not a very good stadium but it does get loud in there) and rumor of them heading to Los Angeles keeps popping in. The taxpayers do not want to pay for a new stadium. They have already build new stadiums in recent years. The owner at one time wanted an open air stadium and is now on a retractable roof kick. From what I am told the state does not want to pay for a new stadium (I agree with them, I am sick of billionaire owners expecting the average joe to pay for new stadiums, then charge prices so high, the average fan can't even afford to go to a game for a stadium they paid for). Those that are in favor of a new stadium are split about evenly on whether they want an open air stadium or a retractable roof/dome. Personally, I think the old Black n Blue division needs to go back to playing real football and it would save a ton of money. The old Met hosted some great games back in the day.

The issue with open stadiums in the northern areas of the country is that it eliminates the possibility of hosting Super Bowls, which can be huge revenue generators. In addition, it also limits the types of events that can be held there, such as basketball games, boxing matches, monster truck events, etc.

That is the argument in favor of retractable roofs.

NY Giants are idiots. Why not spend a little more and put a retractable roof?

Target Stadium is a baseball only facility. Thank the lord the multipurpose arenas are dead. Though for a baseball park in the north I do wonder why they didn't make it domed or retractable.

I know. For 1.6 billion - more than JerryWorld - it is totally underwhelming.

I may be in the minortity with this, but I don;t think any team should get a stadium just to themselves. No reason in the world pro football and college football teams can't share a stadium - same for baseball, college basketball etc.

The Vikings should have been forced to particpate and share the new stadium for the Golden Gophers.

The money is so out of hand that communitites need to put themselves first and the teams can deal with it.

That's a good point and I understand that. I just think football is a game to be played in the elements. Why not have the roofs always open for football but you can close it for other events. I just feel it is a part of the game.

I think that RFK had the best stadium atmoshpere. While it didn't hold a lot of people, it sure seemed like every seat was a good one. The crowd noise during some of the games was insane.

I miss those days.

I was curious so i did some looken up on the internet about the last games played at the NFCE stadiums.

Eagles lost 27-10 in the last game played at the vet (NFC Championship game againts the bucs) upon further findings they even lost the last reg season game to the Giants 7-10(ot).

The Commanders last game in RFK stadium they won 9-7 over us. Did not make the play offs.

Giants lost yesterday, we lost last year yet won in our last game at the cotton bowl (31-12 over the St. Louis Cards)

as a division we are 2-3 in our final games of the stadiums life.

edit:forgot the cotton bowl
