Projected 2021 comp picks for the NFCE are as follows:

Giants- None
Wash- None

Both teams didn't have quality rosters to start and had a bunch of CAP space so they outspent what they lost pretty easily

Eagles- 6th for Jordan Howard, and two 7ths for Darby and Grugier-Hill.

Cowboys-
3rd for Byron
4th for Quinn
5th for Cobb
6th for Collins(after cutting McCoy)

Players we acquired that will not affect comp picks:
Andy Dalton-Cut
Aldon Smith-Out of league
Everson Griffen-Past April 30th
Dontari Poe-Cut

Who wouldn't trade Quinn for Griffen and a 4th rounder? I would have and not even blinked an eye.

Or Cobb for Lamb and a 5th?

I am accused often of being a "hater", but this was a pretty great offseason for them. Sucks about McCoy but those things are going to happen.

@QuincyCarterEra Those extra 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th round picks are going to be nice. I am guessing the 2021 draft will be deep since any player who is eligible to come out, will enter the draft. Who knows what colleges are going to do next year. Get paid now.

Anyone have an idea if more eligible juniors will be entering the draft? Will this be a deep draft?

I kinda knew but it is nice to see it written down all in one spot.

I appreciate it QC. Good post.

By losing McCoy did that improve our comp picks any. I believe we were already getting 4 comp picks, but was one a 7th, or a lower 6th?
Last I seen was the same, 3, 4, 5, 6 rounds. As the 4 players, were Jones, Cobbs, Quinn and Collins anyway. So does McCoy replace Collins or Cobb? And moves up that 6th to a higher slot?

No sir, before McCoy was cut we were set to get a 7th instead of a 6th.

The McCoy cut bumped it to a 6th.

One things to watch is that Quinn is the highest of the 4th rounders, so if he were to outperform on of the five 3rd round comp players there's a possibility that Quinn's 4th could turn into a 3rd which would be big time!

In all fairness, Lamb still required us to use our 1st rounder, so it's Cobb+1st for Lamb and 5th. I still do it, but that's a better approximation

I assume that it will be deep but even more than that, a hard to scout draft. In some cases you'll be drafting a guy who hasn't played in a year. Think of when Maurice Clarett and Mike Williams finally made it into the draft (after their failed legal experiment to come out after only 2 years). Teams were looking at old film and projecting. A Micah Parsons looks like a great athlete but he's far from a finished LB. Do you take him in the top 10 just on that hope? Will be interesting to see but it should have a lot of kids...

thanks.
I knew we had four, but not sure if that 4th was a 6th or 7th. As it was right after the draft, and FA was not done yet for the comp picks to be settled.

yes if we can get 2 3rd round comp pick would be huge.
I could see a definite trade up scenario to get a player they want.

You know, trade up from 32 to top 15. :D

It's expected to shatter previous records.

The record pretty much breaks each year but they are expecting serious #'s.

Guys are going to get drafted in the 7th round that might be 2nd rounders in the next draft.

I think there is conflicting information on whether cutting McCoy had any comp pick effect. That certianly use to be the case, if you cut someone before week 10 then your team's formula could be altered. But some of the comp pick experts on Twitter have said this doesn't appear to be the case with the new CBA.

There's also a discrepancy if McCoy, if he still counted toward our formula, if he could count for his original cost of $6mm or his new cost of $3mm. If he was $3mm, I think we would still retain our 6th rounder. If he was $6mm, I think we would only end up with 3 picks not 4. I can't find the tweets yet, so I may have some details slightly off, but this is the general gist of it.

EDIT: Found the thread, located here:

Nick runs the comp pick projections for Over The Cap, which has been the most accurate over the last couple of years. He's currently projecting the Cowboys for 3 picks, not 4, a 3rd/4th/5th. McCoy is still currently being counted at his original signing of $6.1mm average, and is not voided from the formula like he would've been under last year's rules. We do technically qualify for a 4th pick, a 7th rounder for Xavier Su'a Filo. But the NFL only gives out 32 comp picks, and his salary comes in at 33rd, so we missed getting a 7th rounder by one compensatory slot.

All this being said, I still think there is some confusion at which salary number McCoy will count in this formula.

That's a nice way to look at it but they had no intent of trading any of those guys they just got lucky that Lamb was there when they dropped and Griffin was still available.

I can't give them credit for those moves because they had nothing in place for life without Byron and Quinn or Cobb. The plan was to go into the draft and draft a receiver later on in the draft.

Good point. I wouldn't have traded a 1st for a receiver personally....but can't be mad at Lamb for a 1st and Cobb.

Not to mention the millions in salary and cap saved on both accounts.
