Just about any expert you ask would say that the Cowboys would be thrilled to have a shot at Alabama guard Chance Warmack with the 18th pick in the NFL Draft.
It just doesn't seem likely, if you believe mock drafters. Most mocks have Warmack long gone by then, instead going in the 8 to 12 range.
But according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, there are rumors around the NFL that Warmack won't go quite as high as many are projecting and could, in fact, fall to the Cowboys in the late teens.
"I know most people don't believe that will be the case, but it wouldn't be completely shocking based on some of the whispers around the league," Schefter wrote during a recent mailbag for fans.
Schefter also pointed out Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro as an "ideal" pick for Dallas at 18 if he fell to them, despite the fact that the Cowboys hope Barry Church can step in as a starter, and signed veteran Will Allen to compete with second-year safety Matt Johnson for the other.
"However it plays out, Dallas could do a lot worse than coming away with a safety and a guard, drafted in either order, in the first two rounds of the draft," Schefter wrote.
