IRVING, Texas -- The inaugural National Fantasy Football Convention in Las Vegas, headed by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, has been canceled because of the NFL's concerns with its connection to a casino property.

The three-day event from July 10-12 was originally scheduled to be hosted by the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. An NFL spokesman confirmed via email a Fox Sports report about the league's longstanding policy that it made aware to the NFL Players Association, writing, "Players and NFL personnel may not participate in promotional activities or other appearances in connection with events that are held at or sponsored by casinos."

According to a source, players could have been subject to a fine or a suspension if they participated. A spokesman for the NFLPA said it would withhold comment until it had more information.

The only good thing I can see coming from this is if they move it to my hometown.

What relation does the NFL have to the convention? Whats next? All NFL players can't GO to a casino? Thats what this is akin to. He's advertising a business he's involved in that is related to the NFL, but has nothing to actually do with it. How's it any different than a yahoo or espn fantasy football convention at a casino? Just because Romo is employed BY THE COWBOYS, not the NFL, shouldn't prevent him from conducting a separate business in whatever place he wants as long as its legal. What if a player had a stake in an adult movie company and was the face of it? Or a Weed atore in Colorado? The NFL is really starting to turn me off with this kind of stuff.

Have to admit, I was very shocked it got this far.
I'm a huge Romo fan, but he was basically doing some friends a favor with this. It seemed right on the edge, IMO.

It would have been fun for a ton of people, but mixing FFB in a famous gambling town with active players is pushing it.

Only because Goodells bosses werent getting the $$$$$$$$$$$

Tony seemed to be promoting fairly hard, he was on a bunch of radio shows last couple of months...bet he.s annoyed.

But yeah im sure it has to do with money for the nfl, heck they.re probaly just mad they didnt think it up.
