The Bears are currently projected to have $63 million in cap space, but they also have a lot of work to do to build around Caleb Williams this offseason in hopes that he can take another step under Ben Johnson's tutelage. That might mean saving money in certain areas to reallocate it where it matters most. As such, middle linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards could be cut considerations. Edmunds carries a $17.4 million cap hit, though $13 million of that would remain dead money unless he was designated a post-June 1 cut -- and the $6.8 million in cap relief then wouldn't take effect until June, negating the benefit in free agency. Edwards is easier to move on from, with his potential release resulting in $5.5 million in savings. They were second (Edwards had 129) and third (Edmunds had 110) in tackles for the Bears last season, but both earned middling defensive grades from Pro Football Focus. If Chicago's front office sees more value investing the resources devoted to these linebackers in positions that would better protect or unlocking their franchise quarterback, we could see one or both veterans released this offseason.

The Browns are in as bad a spot as it gets financially, currently projected to sit $31 million over the cap with a disastrous quarterback situation featuring Mr. Deshaun Watson, who carries a $73 million cap number (!) in 2025. Their most lucrative options for legitimate cap savings would be designating a couple of offensive linemen as post-June 1 cuts, but that doesn't feel likely. Instead, they might have to look at Dalvin Tomlinson, who started 16 games in 2024 and was pretty solid from a production standpoint, as a designated post-June 1 cut, which would result in $6.4 million in cap savings. It’s a small start to a major project.

Steele should be cut but probably won’t be. Donovan Wilson is another possible cut. Both would be post June 1st cuts and would save the team 20 million overall in cap space for 2025.

They have to find at least 40-60M just to operate in 2025.

Just one Cowboy - Damone Clark

The Cowboys have a lot of work to do this offseason, starting $2.8 million in the red and not particularly flush with cuttable, cap-saving players. There are a couple key starters who could be released (especially with post-June 1 designations) to save big money, but that might hurt more than it helps. Instead, Dallas will likely need to restructure contracts, shift money and be (typically) inactive in free agency ... and maybe penny-pinch on guys like Damone Clark. Clark started just two games in 2024, totaled 28 tackles and logged more snaps on special teams (71 percent) than defense (just 18 percent). His release would net just $3.3 million in savings, but every dollar counts, and he’s simply not an impact player.

Cowboys players I would seriously consider releasing:

• Damone Clark (very low cap hit- not much future here IMO)
• Trevon Diggs (this year has a small “out” with a $12 million cap hit but you save $2 million in salary- I think he’s a shadow of what he was after two surgeries. Get out now before wasting more cap space)
• Donovan Wilson or Malik Hooker (one or the other- potentially saving $4 million in cap space)
• Matt Waletzko (we’ve seen enough - time to move on)
• Deuce Vaughn (saves about $1 million in cap space)
• Malik Davis (saves about a million in cap space)

With some more study, I could probably come up with more names. Some of the above guys are just no brainers.

The cap is going up at least $26 million. With cuts and retirements like Zack Martin, this won’t be difficult. Well with a good front office it wouldn’t.

Pretty easy to get to 50M cap space without any cuts.

Convert Dak, CeeDee and cut Terence Steele? 60m in cap space.

All about what you have to replace guys.
If you want to play Guyton at RT and let him develop over there moving on from Steele would make sense.
If you like the young safeties than moving on from Hooker or Wilson makes sense.
I am pretty unsure of how Eberflus grades these guys so tried to stay away from defense.

I agree that these individuals should be let go. With the exception of Diggs, all of the other players can be replaced by late draft picks or even UDFA's - all at a cheaper price.
