I love these blanket statements.

its what the cowboys would do,its their MO.they will target the highest guy on their board and clearly Gurley will be ranked pretty high.I really hope somebody takes him high because the temptation would be too much for our FO.

And it is making a bunch of assumptions that a team is looking to move down. This is not just Jerry Jones' draft to do with what he wishes.

Cowboys Draft

1st- Melvin Gordon
2nd- Damarious Randall
3rd- Nate Orchard
4th- Darius Philon
5th- Antwan Goodley
7th- Davon Walls
7th Cody Riggs

I'm not crazy about Gordon in the 1st but can't say I'd be too upset with the 1st 5 picks. That would be a very solid draft.

Orchard wont get out of round 2. With some many team switching to the 3-4 and teams needing OLBs already running the 3-4. He wont even make it to 60. I would hate randall in round 2. When would he play? The 5-6 snaps they take Church out in sub packages?

Gordon i would love that pick tho.

was it Jerry jones draft when we moved up in the 2nd giving up a 3rd rd pick last year?

Agree. It's not my favorite but it's not terrible.

Gordon might be a little overrated.

Orchard is a bit underrated, IMO.

Randall is hard for me to evaluate. He might be more of what modern safety starts to look like as basically a CB playing Safety. He was CB in JUCO.

Philon looks really good in game footage. They say he has personality issues.

I would prefer a CB earlier than the 7th. I assume that the Cowboys like Randall as a Safety and not CB.

It is a lot more of a buyer's market in the 2nd than the first.

The two teams right in front of Baltimore could want Gurley. So could Miami and San Diego.

Who would be willing to trade down assuming that?

He is not hard for me to evaluate at all.

Bad safety class, zooms from mid round pick in February to borderline first now?

Not your typical progression for a good safety. To me, he is a product of demand not how good he is.

If they want to develop a Safety that's probably how if will be with most of them unless they're a 1st round pick. Any 2nd round and later Safety is unlikely to start day one.

I agree that Orchard is likely to go higher. I think the draft media is overreacting to his mediocre combine.

If it were up to me I would definitely take Josh Shaw over Randall if we are going t he CB/S route. Anybody else agree?

If Gurley is there at 26 then there is no way we dont trade up.

A part of the draft process that does not generate much discussion is how teams guess on which players will be available. Any trade up involves a guess that the player won't fall to your pick.

Often a team will have a really good idea if certain other teams will pick certain players. A lot of this comes from calling to discuss trades and some personal relationships across teams and possibly other methods.

The Cowboys would have to feel really strongly that Baltimore was going to draft Gurley if they don't trade up. If Baltimore really wants him the Cowboys would have to trade ahead of them, not with them. I've heard a number of stories about how after a draft it was determined that some teams traded up for a player that was not going to be drafted by any teams in front of them anyway.

Based on game footage, yes. The issue is mental makeup. The Safety position requires a certain mental makeup and are some questions about Shaw in that area. If the reports are true that the Cowboys really like Randall, some of that must be due to mental makeup because the game footage is just OK, not great.

My top choice would be Eric Rowe, but he will likely be an early 2nd rounder.

id rather Dallas draft one later in the draft. Derron Smith in 4 or Hackett in 7

Those guys a long shots to even be as good as Church/Wilcox.

I would prefer guys like Rowe or Shaw that could play CB initially and transition to Safety later. IMO, Rowe could play as the 3rd CB as a rookie. Many analysts are projecting him as a Safety, but his CB skills are very underrated.

I don't see any way Gurley is there at 26, or Gordon at 27 for that matter.

If they "can play" CB, keep them there. I cannot think of many players drafted to play CB and switch right away. Usually it is when either they show they cannot play CB or age catches up to them.

The Broncos are thinking about shifting Roby now because it is clear he cannot play CB. If you are doing that with a player, it is likely a salvage project versus a real plan.

After the first three rounds I'd be okay with it. It falls apart after that.
