Dallas Cowboys
Draft pick: CB Byron Jones(No. 27 overall), DE Randy Gregory (No. 60 overall), OLChaz Green (No. 91 overall)
Day 1 grade: A-
Day 2 grade: A+
Overall grade: A
The skinny: The star of the NFLScouting Combine jumped from under-the-radar prospect to first-round pick after testing well and showing scouts he could cover better than everyone thought. Jones fills a huge need on the Cowboys' defense, and his versatility will allow him to play a number of spots in the secondary. On Day 2, the Cowboys got a top-10 talent at pick No. 60 in Gregory -- obviously, a tremendous value at a big area of need. If the team can get a good support system in place, Gregory could be the steal of the draft a few years from now. Green fills a void along the line and can play multiple spots, but whether he can stay healthy is a question.

That's how I feel about the draft thus far. Through 2 days you got atleast 1 potential starter in Jones, one atleast pass rushing specialist in Gregory and a swing tackle. Those are 3 picks where guys should come in and contribute for us in a big way day 1. That's more than you can ask for when you have nearly the last pick of every round.

It actually says they gave us a B+ for Day 1?

I consider all 3 starters or future starters,I give this draft an A but we have to get a RB and more bodies on the Dline.

Good draft so far, but who is going to run the ball?

I don't think they go running back in this draft. If they do it may be Ajayi but when you start to enter the 4th or 5th round.....at this point what are you drafting? How much of a upgrade can the guy really be over Randle, Dunbar, Williams or McFadden?

there are guys in this draft who would go rd 2 or 3 last year still available,i believe we can get an everydown Back and my top 3 choices are mike davis, allen and ajayi who are better than Williams and Dunbar immediately.

Ehhh....I just don't see it. I don't see a guy who's going to come in and be more than someone who's just a part of a running back by committee. There's no one out there as good as Demarco Murray was for this team in regards to being a complete back. So at that point you have to ask yoruself is it worth getting ANOTHER running back who can be apart of a committee or continue to try and build up the personnel on this defense? This 4th and 5th round is HUGE and if they can find another Hitchens? That's another starter right there. That's more important to me than finding a running back at this point in the draft.

But I also believe that Williams, Dunbar, Randle and McFadden are a solid enough group of running backs to take with you on Sundays.

 It doesn't matter where Ajayi goes, he's got bell cow talent. Teams just don't know how much mileage is left in that one knee.

I can't wait to see our current RB committee show these Cowboys fans how wrong they are about needing another in the draft. We have no need at RB.

I think they take Buck Allen in the 4th and that he will be better than Randle and Dunbar, maybe Williams. In general I agree completely, this RB class is going to be a very mixed bag. I think Gordon was overdrafted and some of the 2nd/3rd round picks will wash out completely.

He's a good back. Teams are shying away from his medical condition. He and Davis and probably Langford are the only guys left who represent a clear upgrade over our current committee. I think at least one of those guys will be there. Probably both Ajayi and Davis will. But it's not the end of the world if they're not.

I mean I think there's a argument to be made that potentially someone could be better but i'm saying at this point? Chances are you drafting a guy to get you 10-15 carries a game. I'm not opposed to Buck Allen either. I just think the Cowboys invested a lot in offensive line to the point where I think they believe they can essentially go with what they have at running back and have success. I think they made that clear when they let Demarco go.

 It doesn't matter where Ajayi goes, he's got bell cow talent. Teams just don't know how much mileage is left in that one knee.

I don't deny he has talent but can his knee hold up? It sort of feels like with Leary that they are sort of waiting for his to go out....and i'm not sure if they have the same knee injury or not but he was another guy who fell because of that. I think he's incredibly talented too which is why I Said I think the Cowboys like what they have at running back and Ajayi is probably the only guy left they'd actually consider taking. But I believe the Cowboys like their running backs and running game.

There is not a RB currently on this roster that is capable of averaging more than 3.5 yards a carry regardless of how good this O-line is capable of being.

The greatest advantage our backup RB 's had was they came in the game after Murray flat wore the defense down.

By the way, Murray's 4.7 average last year was less than two of his previous three years.

Also, Murray was the Cowboys third leading receiver over the past 4 seasons. Which RB's are going to absorb those touches? McFadden? Hardly!

On third and short, the Cowbosys would be forced to pass, the offensive balance is history.

Except.......for my prediction, the one I wrote about a month ago:

"A rookie free agent running back will make a very significant contribution to the team in 2015".

One of the greatest advantages the Cowboys have had has been their success with free agent rookies. Watch for it....

I put zero credence in theses post draft grades that reflect positive or negative for the Cowboys. I like the picks and trust in Will McClay and the staff to build the team.
