NFL.COM: Michael Jordan and Chris Paul are mentoring Dallas Cowboys' Dez Bryant

A more mature Dez Bryant insists he's finally "found himself" after a bumpy start to his NFL career. After becoming just the seventh NFL player to sign with Nike's Jordan Brand, Bryant credited the basketball legend for admonishing him to " stay out of trouble."

As it turns out, Bryant actually downplayed Michael Jordan's role in demonstrating professionalism. Bryant's longtime mentor David Wells revealed that Jordan and the once-troubled wide receiver talk by phone twice a week and regularly exchange text messages. Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul has also taken Bryant under his wing.

"They almost treat him like a little brother," Wells told FOXSportsSouthwest.com. "Dez started listening to older people instead of the young guys. Those guys are both married and have stable lives. And that's something Dez craves."

Deion was courting Dez to sign with Eugene Parker who was Deion agent. I don't think he was concerned what was in Dez interest only the interest of the Parker.

that's a tricky one,
marriage to the right woman = enormously stabilizing,

Deion meeting with Dez is because Parker being an agent was not allowed to approach Dez at that time. Deion got mad because Dez ended up talking after the NCAA put pressure on him. I think Deion felt as if Dez threw him under the bus but then Deion was no saint in this.

As for immaturity issues? I think Deion was one of the best cover men out there but he was not the most mature when he entered the NFL. or did you forget about Hammer time? :laugh2:

I think what happened is Deion try to push Dez to endorse something (i forgot what) and Dez backed out and Deion got mad. Since then, their relationship got sour.

Deion never got in anywhere near the trouble that Dez has been in. Different kinds of immaturity -- and I don't know that you can call wanting to do a rap album "immature" -- better he's in a recording studio than out beating up his mom or something

Deion got butt hurt because Dez backed out of a deal that Deion was working since Dez was in college. Deion became really good friends with the Founder of Under Armour and the rumors I have heard when i was around UA was Deion was going to get a small stake of Under Armour, nothing that gave him any power but it would have maintained his lifestyle because he was thinking of quitting broadcast all he had to do was bring in a bunch of highly touted draft picks. UA felt that if they could get all the draft picks Deion promised that they would have the leverage to beat out Nike for the uniform deal. Again these are rumors I heard while doing work in and around UAs HQ.
