The Eagles will finish third or last. They lost their two most important mebmers on defense: Jim Johnson and Brian Dawkins, in that order, with nothing near good enough to replace either. And their best offensive player - Westbrook - is coming off yet another bad knee, at his youthful age.

That is a pretty strong argument for the eagles finishing third..(not being sarcastic). This entire offseason I have been having similar sentiments as to why the Gspots will finish 3rd in the division. It looks like it will be a pretty strong battle for 2nd, between the eagles and giants.

Reminiscent of the 1992 pre-season poll that had the Eagles as Super Bowl favorites and the division power structure as thus:

Philadelphia Eagles
Washington Commanders
Dallas Cowboys
New York Giants
Phoenix Cardinals

The reality of it ended up being:

Dallas Cowboys 13-3
Philadelphia Eagles 11-5
Washington Commanders 9-7
New York Giants 6-10
Phoenix Cardinals 4-12

I can understand why casual fans (readers) would rank the teams the way they did. However the Eagles losing Johnson and Dawkins will hurt. They may or may not overcome that.

Similarly, the Giants losing Spagnuolo and Burris will hurt. However, I still think their defense will be strong and if Eli finds a new security blanket they will make some noise.

Most people look at last year and believe the Cowboys just returned to a level they belong at. Me? I'm convinced that injuries are what brought us down last year and, if we stay relatively healthy this year we should put up around 11 wins.

preseason 1992 classic Joe Theisman:

"Dallas is an 8-8 team that doesnt have a defense capable of being a playoff team"

Oops

exactly... that's why i'll take all of the disrespect we can take in the offseason. the preseason opinions and polls by the so-called experts generally mean nothing anyway.

I have always hated the idea of using negative opinions for motivation. The 90's Cowboys teams knew they were going to kick everyones butt and dared you to stop them. There was not a lot of talk of enjoying being the "underdog".

Touche.

I'm loving this. Its just fuel for the fire. And after the last two seasons its obvious, we need a fire lit under our butt to do anything.

When we come out really hungry, I dont know if we can be beat.

Yes, I said it. And meant it.

But I would LOVE for everyone to sleep on us.

Very true.

But this isn't the 90's teams anymore. It's a WHOLE different team and era.

I'm not trying to single you out by any means, but we as Cowboys fans need to stop living in the 90's

At this point, I am afraid I have to pick the Eagles also. For the last 5 years, I have been a homer and hoped that my dreams would come true, with the Cowboys.
Let's hope I am wrong!
