So he also says Darrell Hackney is a better prospect than Cutler, Whitehurst, and Croyle?

Okay.

Is anyone in his rankings a first round talent?? I guess we'll just start with the second round:lmao:

Yhea, he's got several including,

Bush
V. Davis
Ferguson
D. Joseph
M Williams
Ngata
Hawk
Greenway
J Allen

But there are about another 10 players who fell just below his cut-off and were on the border line. Guys like Huff, for example.

Anyway, it's a bit different read than PFW, Sporting News, etc.

Okay.

Personally, sitting here in London, I really don't get to watch much college football.

However, I try and read up various draft mags, etc. It's always interesting getting different view points.

I like some of the arguments he makes pro/con, and as I said, it's an interesting, comprehensive read. Of course, that doesn't make it 100% accurate. But rather than following the herd mentality, he forms his own opinons.

No, your not mixed up. Banks was an OLB and Carson was an ILB. Position is really not what I'm refering to here. LT was the guy who kept you up at night as an OC but Carson was the guy who kept the whole thing tight. He was the glue. I don't think that we have that in any of our LBs. Dat was kinda that way but now, he's gone too. I just think we need one guy who can be that steady influence on the defense. In a 34, I think it's better if that person is a LB. Doesn't have to be inside so long as it's somebody. I think Carpenter can possibly be a player like that.

Ok I gotcha now. I agree, we need a LB like that.

Carpenter could be that guy. Who knows? We'll find out eventually.

Yeah, if I were to draft him at #18, it'd be because he has long blond hair

... what the hell? I'll avoid personal attacks for "fear" of BANISHMENT FROM THE LANDS

Im just naming a characteristic that I like in players... Like Mike Mckenzie, Al Harris, Marion Barber, Ricky Williams, Akin Adoyle, and Lavar Arrington they all had dreds...

but common sense should tell yall that hair doesn't have nothing to do with skills... just saying a characteristic that I like in players... The reason why I like Bobby Carpenter because he's explosive at that position. He's versatile. But Im sure Parcells is between Kamerion Wimbley and Manny Lawson...

I'm not disagreeing with you per say, and Carson might have been glue by that definition, but he was some pretty special glue. 9 Pro Bowls and a borderline HOF'er, he wasn't LT but he was a superstar in his own right. I would do jumping jacks for Carpenter if I thought he was going to be even remotely that good. The problem is, I don't .. and I personally like to draft for upside in the first round, even if they do carry a bit of a boom/bust factor. In my book, hitting on 1 boom makes up for 2 busts. Maybe even 3. You can find serviable role players in free agency and in the mid to lower round to fill roles, but elite players never see the market. First round picks are the best shot of ever aquiring them. I think Manny Lawson has the ability to maybe develop into an elite player. I think Wimbley has a chance too. I don't think Bobby Carpenter does.

:hammer:Though, I think with quality scouts, you have a much better chance to boom.

some of you guys are misunderstanding the writer, he's not saying Carpenter isn't a 1st round talent, he actually quite clearly stated that he was, him grading out highly in workouts, just he feels he doesn't have the instincts necessary to make a huge impact on the game, now or in the future, but mind you, you can coach instincts, how to read and react, Carpenter's biggest knock according to the writer, you can't however, coach Carpenter's skill-set, which is very good, so if Parcells takes Carpenter at 18, knowing his success finding LBs, you won't see me complaining

I like that viewpoint, and the way you broke it down. I have always been in favor of the safe pick, but you make a very strong argument for the guy with higher upside.

Well, I do think that Carpenter is special, from a talent point of view, in everything but rushing the passer. Everybody thinks he's a great pass rush guy but I don't. I think he's exceptional in the run game. I think he's going to excel in coverage and I think he will be OK from the edge. Nothing more. I think he is very intelligent. I think he has what it might take to be a good Glue guy. His tempermant actually reminds me more of Jack Del Rio then anybody. He's more physically gifted but as far as all the rest, that's who Carpenter kinda reminds me of. I do agree with you about Carson. Carson was an exceptional LB even before LT but he too was never a pass rush specialist. Then again, I think he was a 4th round pick so there you go. I am not in favor of taking any of the LBs at 18. I am not in favor of even staying at 18. I am not thrilled about any player in the first round being taken before like 25. If we could trade down, I would really like that. I'm very excited about guys 25 through 45. I just think there is exceptional value there.
