Cowboys TE Martellus Bennett caused quite a stir when he suggested that the team should hold an open quarterback competition between Tony Romo and Jon Kitna. And then nothing since.

Which is kind of a shame, because he can be rather entertaining. In fact, the way Bennett runs his mouth, he kind of reminds us of a certain celebrity who has gotten in trouble for running his mouth recently.

Wasn't hard to tell. Bennett's quotes were the more nonsensical ones, while Sheen's were more mean-spirited or self-centered.

I'll give Martellus credit that at least he doesn't come off sounding like an egomaniac.

Actually Martellus just says outrageous stuff. Sheen was having a breakdown. I don't think it was drugs (although he obviously uses). I don't think it was an act. Dude was losing it and maybe still is.

You mean less mature than immaturity? Because immaturity is clearly an issue.

Long ago, I wrote a humor column for my college newspaper. At the time, I thought my musings were clever and everyone had to be enjoying the joke (which a lot of other students did). Now when I look back on those writings, I realize how immature I was.

I see the same things with Bennett. He thinks he's clever when 9 times out of 10 he's just being stupid or ignorant. Someday, he'll grow up and realize that ... but people mature at different rates, so we don't know when that day will arrive.
