Our offensive line is aging. This makes sense. In this mock draft Peterson, Fairley, and Dareus are all off the board. Anybody have any beef with Carimi getting drafted here?

PROS: Good athlete with good size and long arms. Good in pass protection. Stays on his blocks and will stay in front of defenders. Good power and excellent run blocker. Quickly gets off the line and is explosive. Very confident and has a nice mean streak.

CONS: Gets beat by speed rushers, inconsistent in his footwork. May be best suited as a right tackle in the NFL. Struggles with inside counter moves and allows defenders to get under his pads.

I dont care where hes projected to go if we can get an immediate starter at any position I will be happy with whoever we take at the 9th pick.

I wonder what happens if the Panthers don't pick Peterson? That's what makes me think he may fall. Not to #9 but to #7 or #8.

So he is best suited at RT?

Sorry, but NFL teams dont draft RTs in the top 10 (at least not on purpose).

That would be a monumentally stupid pick. Seriously, drafting a RT in the top 10...........wow.

Yay let's draft a right tackle with the 9th overall pick. Major reach.

there are about 3 OTs to take at this point--I'd take the meanest one (not sure who that is, but if were my choice, I'd find out)

Sounds good to me!

Was watching NFLN yesterday, and Baldy really doesn't lke Castonzo that much. Didn't think he was strong enough to start right away.

We should probably look toward making sure we're filling holes rather than whether other teams will consider our picks "reaches."

Why do we have to do what everyone else does?

A question for you draft gurus: How does Carimi compare to Jake Long taken 1st overall a couple of years ago?

I know Long is very solid, but he's NO Joe Thomas. How do they both compare as they were coming out?

Because you don't draft players in top ten overall who will ONLY be right tackles in the NFL. Looking to the future has to be a consideration as well.

What if Doug Free doesn't pan out? What if we need a guard and Carimi isn't stout enough to play guard? He's a one-position player.

I'd rather go with Tyron Smith because at least he gives you flexibility now and in the future. I hate the Carimi pick. I would be okay with it if we traded back in the late 1st/early 2nd, but no way does he justify going in the top ten.

Exactly. Every one was shocked when the Pats took Mankins, but they wanted the guy so they took him.

If your organization REALLY likes a guy, you should just take him and throw 'value' and all that crap out the door

I see the Mankins analogies, but he was drafted at the end of round one, not in the top ten.

It's impossible to spin Carimi as a reach pick at #9. At the end of round one or in the second I'll gladly take him, but at #9? No way.

I'm sorry but drafting a right tackle at #9 who has problems with speed rushers would be a DUMB move.

Yea I agree. At the end of Round 1 is a coin toss anyway. That's most talent that's good enoug to be a late first rounder or a early or mid 2nd rounder. Carimi is not a top 10 pick and if the Cowboys really like him they should be trading down and getting him. I don't see him even going top 10 in this draft.
