Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday made it official with both of their fourth-round draft picks.

Dallas signed quarterback Dak Prescott and defensive end Charles Tapper, the team announced.

Prescott (taken No. 135 overall) looms as a potential long-term replacement for Tony Romo. The former Mississippi State star is the first quarterback taken by the Cowboys since Stephen McGee in the fourth round back in 2009. Prescott will battle Kellen Moore for the No. 2 job, offering the Cowboys a tantalizing mix of arm talent and mobility.

(Prescott) was the entire team (at Mississippi State)," one scout told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "The guy's just a winner. He's got patience, focus, makes quick decisions, good arm strength, nice touch, stands tall in the pocket under pressure."

The 6-foot-2, 227-pound Prescott posted a 23-10 record in college and also ran for 2,501 yards and 41 touchdowns. He was arrested in March for DUI, but the Cowboys thought enough of his potential to take a chance.

Tapper (the No. 101 overall pick) is a 6-foot-3, 271-pound pass rusher out of Oklahoma who could see plenty of action early while Randy Gregory and Demarcus Lawrence serve suspensions to start the year.

IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys have moved closer to signing their entire 2016 draft class, reaching deals on Tuesday with fourth-round picks Charles Tapper and Dak Prescott.

Tapper, the 101st overall pick, will compete for playing time as an edge rusher in the Cowboys’ defensive line rotation. The three-year college starter produced seven sacks and 10 tackles for loss as a senior at Oklahoma.

Prescott, the 135th overall pick, is the third quarterback drafted by the Cowboys since 2001. He’ll develop as a backup behind long-time starter Tony Romo.

A three-year starter and two-time All-American in college, Prescott was one of four players in FBS history to throw 70 touchdown passes and run for 40 touchdowns in his career. He joins a quarterback depth chart behind Romo that includesKellen Moore, a two-game starter last year while Romo was injured, and Jameill Showers, who spent most of last year on the practice squad.

The Cowboys now have eight of their nine draft picks under contract: Prescott, Tapper, running back Ezekiel Elliott, linebacker Jaylon Smith, cornerback Anthony Brown, safety Kavon Frazier, running back Darius Jackson and tight end Rico Gathers. Only third-round pick Maliek Collins is currently unsigned.

I guess Collins is planning on going back into the draft next year.
