Transactions for Friday, August 30, 2013
http://www.rotoworld.com/teams/transactions/nfl/all/today/
Ravens LB D.J. Bryant suffered what was believed to be a season-ending knee injury in Thursday's preseason finale.
An undrafted free agent out of James Madison, Bryant will likely be waived/injured, allowing him to spend the year on injured reserve as opposed to the street. He'll be back for another long-shot roster bid next summer.

Bears waived/injured S Brandon Hardin.
Early reports left out the "injured" part. Hardin broke his shoulder in Thursday's preseason finale. Exposing Hardin to waivers is quite an admission of defeat for GM Phil Emery, and a vote of no confidence in Hardin's health. Hardin missed his entire rookie year with a neck injury. An imposing 6-foot-3, 217-pounds with excellent speed, injuries also cost Hardin his entire senior year at Oregon State.
Bears waived OT J'Marcus Webb.
J'Webb Nation is no longer a sovereign state. Among the worst starting players in the league last season, not even a demotion and pay cut could save Webb's roster spot. His release would seem to suggest Eben Britton and Jonathan Scott have locked up roster spots. The 2010 seventh-rounder has three years of starting experience to fall back on, but his tape isn't going to do him any favors in his search for a new home. The Bears are starting fifth-rounder Jordan Mills opposite new LT Jermon Bushrod.

Eagles waived QB G.J. Kinne.
Kinne never had a realistic shot at a roster spot after Chip Kelly drafted Matt Barkley. A 2012 undrafted free agent, Kinne's best-case scenario would be latching onto someone's practice squad, but it's unlikely.

Ravens waived CB Marc Anthony.
The owner of one of the league's more unfortunate duplicate names, Anthony was the No. 247 pick of April's draft. The Ravens will presumably stash him on the practice squad. Anthony's 4.63 speed is working against him long term.

Patriots waived TE Jake Ballard.
The writing was on the wall for Ballard when Lions defensive linemen were rag-dolling him in the Pats' third preseason game. 25 years old with bad knees, Ballard may generate light interest on waivers, but is unlikely to ever be a fantasy asset again. He's a big, plodding in-line tight end who looks maxed out as a player. The Patriots' release of Ballard likely means Rob Gronkowski (back) will avoid reserve/PUP to open the season.

Bears released QB Jordan Palmer and S Tom Nelson, waived WR Josh Lenz.
A camp body, Palmer made it two weeks on the roster. He isn't practice-squad eligible. Already 29, time is running out for Carson's little brother. Lenz is an undrafted free agent out of Iowa State. He has 4.37 wheels.

Bills waived CB Crezdon Butler.
Butler had been penciled in opposite Leodis McKelvin while Stephon Gilmore recovers from wrist surgery, but WGR 550 Buffalo reported Wednesday that his roster spot still wasn't sewn up. It now appears one of Justin Rogers and T.J. Heath will get the nod. A 2010 fifth-round pick of the Steelers, Butler has never made a start, and played just 19 snaps between the Bills and Commanders last season.

Ravens waived RB Anthony Allen and TE Alex Silvestro.
Allen's fate was sealed by the Ravens' acquisition of Delone Carter. A 2011 seventh-rounder out of Georgia, Allen was also waived at final cuts last season only to return and appear in all 16 games. He had a dud preseason, carrying the ball 20 times for just 68 yards (3.4 YPC).
Falcons waived LB Brian Banks.
Banks is an inspiring story, but off the football field since he was a teenager, he never stood a chance of cracking the Falcons' 53-man roster. Perhaps they'll continue to develop him on the practice squad, but it's not terribly likely.

Bears released G/C Edwin Williams, waived LB Jerry Franklin and LS Brandon Hartson.
A fill-in starter each of the past three seasons, Williams agreed to a restructured contract in May, but was made expendable by the signing of Matt Slauson and emergence of rookie Kyle Long. Williams should make himself a part of the workout circuit.

Bills waived OT Zebrie Sanders and LB Kourtnei Brown.
A 2012 fifth-rounder, Sanders underwent surgery on both hips last September, and might not be all the way back. An imposing 6-foot-7, 320 pounds, Sanders has strength to spare, and could get a look on waivers if his medicals aren't a disaster. Brown has never appeared in an NFL game.
Trent Edwards - QB - Free Ag

Bears released QB Trent Edwards.
The journeyman veteran lasted 12 days on the roster. It means the Bears are going with just Josh McCown behind Jay Cutler at quarterback. It's a dangerous strategy considering Cutler's injury history, but Edwards would have been a waste of a roster spot. He's a sub-replacement level NFL quarterback.

Patriots released TE Daniel Fells.
Fells was going into the second season of a three-year, $5.25 million deal. The move clears $1.25 million in cap space. Reading the tea leaves rarely gets you far with the Patriots, but coupled with Jake Ballard's release, the move suggests they're optimistic about Rob Gronkowski's health. Four weeks shy of his 30th birthday, Fells has just 23 catches since the end of the 2010 season.

There is a rumor that Drake Nevis from the Colts may be cut.

If he is cut we have to sign him. He would help us out a lot in the future and is probably a starter for us as well.

I think Trueblood is definitely a guy worth looking at. Has to be a better option than Bell.

Need to keep an eye on the Giants as most likely one of Patterson or M. Austin may be cut.

I liked him coming out of school, believe he has had a hard time staying on the field because of injuries.

The Patriots announced 10 of the 22 roster moves they need to make before Saturday’s 6 p.m. deadline to get the roster down to 53, and Tebow was not among those 10.
The cuts the Patriots announced were tight end Jake Ballard, defensive end Marcus Benard, tight end Daniel Fells, receiver Johnathan Haggerty, linebacker Mike Rivera, offensive lineman Luke Patterson, fullback Ben Bartholomew, defensive lineman Gilbert Peña, offensive lineman Matt Stankiewitch and defensive lineman Scott Vallone.
We may have to wait until Saturday night to learn whether Tebow will join those 10 men in unemployment, or join the Patriots’ 53-man roster.

Bring in Edwin Williams and Jeremy Trueblood and kick their tires. Better depth at the least, IMO.

If Tebow is cut I can't wait for the Lets Pick Him Up and Start Instead of Romo thread.

Well, according to one long winded poster, Tebow "inspires" his team to win even thought he's a crappy QB.

lmao

Tebow needs to hang up the spikes and run for office...he is likeable and could get voted into some type of role

I actually saw on the Tim Tebow fan page on Facebook that some idiots were claiming this very thing. It was ridiculous they cheered when he completed 2 passes and when he was sacked twice it was oh that's ok Mallett had the same thing so it's ok. Then all the bless this angel stuff was over the top

Add the names of Vince Young and Jimmy Clausen to the list of college star quarterbacks who have not been able to replicate their magic in the NFL. Both were cut Saturday as teams whittled down their rosters to the 53-man limit at the 6 p.m. ET deadline.
Young appeared to have done enough the past three weeks to have earned the job as Aaron Rodgers' backup in Green Bay. But Young was sent packing, leaving B.J. Coleman as the only other quarterback on the Packers' roster.
