I was surprised to see that the Saints and Vikings have had a better records this decade than the Cowboys.

OMG! This puts the Lions futility in perspective. Wow! I seriously wonder how Matt Millen sleeps at night knowing that he presided over that mess. The Texans spotted them a 2 season head start and still beat them easily. Then again, the Lions didn't add a single win to their total in 2008.

I actually thought the Cowboys would be worse than 13th overall. Tells me I've been listening to the media too much.

The first half of the decade was bad for Dallas.

31 wins
49 losses
38.75%
Three straight 5-11 seasons to start the decade, 10-6 in 2003 and 6-10 in 2004.

Starting the decade in that way is tough to overcome to put up a winning record. They have done much better the second half of the decade.

51 wins
29 losses
63.75%
9-7, 9-7, 13-3, 9-7, 11-5

It's a bit surprising to me that there are actually 17 teams that had a worse decade than us.

Yep three straight 5-11 seasons will kill you over a decade.....15-33 to start isn't pretty.

The Lions are the epitome of futility and failure. Only a single winning season, and that barely (9-7) in the decade and it was in 2000.

They have not even played for a championship since they last won in 1957 (the year before I was born!). ZERO playoff appearances since 1999 and only 1 playoff win since 1957 and that was 19 years ago in 1991!

They have only made the playoffs 9 times in the past 53 seasons and have only 1 playoff win (over us of course :bang2: ).

The NFL should revoke their franchise and put their players out as FAs (not that there are more than a handful worth taking) since it is painfully obvious that the owner, William Clay Ford, is not intent on putting out a winning team, just in collecting his share of the profit that teams like the Cowboys generate.

I really respect the management teams in Indianapolis, NE, Philly, and Pittsburgh. Those teams have had pretty much the same management the entire decade and they've done quite well.

For all the grief Jerry takes there were only 12 teams that won more games than the Cowboys in the 2000's.

lol, the Lions get 42 wins in a decade. The Colts get that in three years.

And Dallas has that over the last 4 seasons.

I am guessing that Peyton Manning now holds the record for wins by a QB in any decade. Troy Aikman held that for the 1990's. But I don't think he was 115 wins.

I'm not to thump my chest over any particular season or timeframe that doesn't even include a post season win.............
However, the are not too many teams that have had a winning season over the past 3 years, far fewer over the last 4 or 5.

This is the answer to all the azzhole opposing fans who complain we get too much positive preseason press. "Why so many people predicting good things for Dallas, they haven't won a playoff game in forever."

Correct. Manning holds the record now. Aikman's number was in the 90's. 92 or 95 stick out as his total for some reason.

I was thinking 95, but was not 100% sure.

115 is just plain sick.

Yea, and it's not like he did with a great defense all those years either. We really may be watching the greatest QB ever (all apologies to Unitas).

Indy, NE and Philly benefitted from having one Pro Bowl QB for most of the decade. Pittsburgh got it done with scrubs, running game and defense until Big Ben came.

Having said that, they all have smart management which hasn't made the mistake of overpaying veterans in decline. Philly and NE have been good at trading some vets for good draft picks (esp. NE: got a first for Seymour, a first for Deion Branch, a second for Matt Cassell).

He's the best I have ever seen and I have seen a bunch of them.

I've seen every QB in the NFL since the early 60s and have never seen a better one than Peyton Manning.

I don't think it's a stretch to say Manning reinvented the position to some degree. I know QBs way back when used to call their own plays, but I think Manning really changed the way modern QBs call audibles and such at the line. Maybe I'm too young to remember others doing it, but in the 90s for instance, I don't recall QBs going to the line and doing what he does -- audibling calls, faking audibles, etc. Now so many other QBs try to do what he does.
