This is an interesting video on what a total league realignment could look like. It's just theoretical. This is unlikely to actually happen, but the video is interesting nonetheless. He gets rid of the AFC versus NFC thing and replaces it with West versus East. A big advantage would be less travel time for teams because he's set up divisions based on the actual region. I've always thought it was weird to have Dallas in the NFC East when the city of Dallas isn't anywhere near the eastern part of the country. It's really in the south central part.

Here's a screen shot of his western divisions in red and his eastern ones in blue. It does seem logical, but we can say bye-bye to rivalries with the Eagles, the Giants, and the Commanders. Our new rivals are the Broncos, the Cardinals, and the Chargers.

As I said, it's extremely unlikely that the league will see this dude's video and decide to run with his ideas, but I still found his video interesting.

Here's a screen shot of his new divisions, and then his video is under it.

It makes perfect sense if you're just starting the league from scratch. But like he said from the start, with all of the rivalries, and the whole AFL VS NFL thing, it's never going to happen.

If it’s about locality, then why wouldn’t the two LA teams be in the same division?

Can't do it any other way because of Seattle. One of the LA teams can't be in that division.

Lol makes no sense, why would Dallas not be in the southern with Houston and why would the chargers be in central? Come on mayne

For similar reasons one of the LA teams can't be in the west. The central needs another team, Dallas is closest to the others.

Then why bother with the thought experiment if it doesn’t make sense? They’re literally in the same city. It doesn’t get any closer than that.

It makes the most sense to do the two LA teams, Vegas and Arizona, since they’re all very close. But that leaves the “northwest” division with only Seattle, San Fran and Denver. You can throw in Kansas City if you want. Or put the Cali teams together and stick Seattle in the north with Minnesota or something.

You can't. If you do that then Seattle is a ridiculous distance away from everyone else. The idea was to make the divisions as close as possible. They did it in that video. And there is no other way to do it without separating one of the LA teams.

We belong in the Southern division feast on the likes of Atlanta Houston and New Orleans …..that’s much more of a rivalry then the likes of the Chargers & Cardinals that road map had Dallas in .

While I love being in the division we are currently in, if they were to make realign for any reason, placing teams in the South will be tough. I see people say Dallas should be in the Southern division. Well, so should Tennessee.

They should realign geographically within thr current conferences. Dallas should be in NFC South. The extra travel of being in NFCE is a disadvantage. Following changes make sense:

NFC- swap Dallas with Carolina.

AFC - Put Miami in AFCS, Colts in AFCN and Ravens in AFCE.

A lot of this could probably work but I didn't agree with the LA decision. You got to get those teams in the same division for this to even be feasible because they share a stadium. There's also some issues in the south east because Charlotte, Nashville and Atlanta are all concentrated in one area, but can't find a regional 4th to complete the division. I put the Falcons with the Florida teams, and put the Titans with the Texas teams.

Here's what I came up with:

Pacific:
LA Chargers
LA Rams
Seahawks
49ers

(Switch Vegas out of the West Coast Division and it makes sense)

Central
Cardinals
Raiders
Broncos
Chiefs

(Raiders should be regional rivals with Cardinals and Broncos now that they left the Bay Area, Move Dallas to South division)

Midwest
Vikings
Packers
Bears
Colts

(I like Colts over here more than KC)

Southern

Cowboys
Texans
Saints
Titans

(This division makes a lot of sense regionally)

Great Lakes
Lions
Steelers
Browns
Bengals

(I moved Steelers to this spot because it makes sense regionally)

Northeast
New York Football Giants
Jets
Bills
Patriots

(Move all NY teams and Boston into their own division)

Atlantic
Philly
Ravens
Washington Football Team
Panthers

South East
Falcons
Jaguars
Dolphins
Bucs

In a league looking to add a team in London and playing regular season games in germany, travel time and proximity are not a consideration.

The one thing the NFL cannot buy is tradition. Breaking up the traditional division rivalries for the sake of proximity isnt happening.

I just can't see the NFCE being broken up. The rivalries there are the most heated in the sport. There for sure are some other good rivalries out there...GB/Chi, Pitt/Bal, SF/LA...but none of them, to me anyways, holds a candle to any of the Cowboys vs. Anyone else in the East.

Also the rivalries that exist among the other teams in our division when they play each other probably all at least rise to the level of any of the others I mentioned above.

Breaking up the NFCE would be beyond stupid.

Yea, logically and geographically speaking, those divisions make more sense than the current configuration. And it would cut down on travel time for many many teams that currently cross multiple time zones multiple times each season.

But, everyone knows there’d be insane amounts of pushback over dissolving all of the longstanding rivalries. The team owners and fans would never go for it.

The Cowboys placement is nonsensical for purposes of closer locality. We should be in a division with the Texans and Saints.

If you're going to go to the trouble of realigning the teams, why not change the number of divisions? Why does it have to be 4? Why not 3... or 5? per conference. For that matter, why have 2 conferences?
