Drafted by Cowboys NFL Draft: Day 3 thread

I feel that Robert Jones is our backup RT now. Richards is our backup LT. Don't think either can swing, but maybe we'll work on that in the preseason.
Jones might be able to play Tackle in a pinch, but he is predominantly a Guard. The team is stacked with Guard Depth, I wouldn't mind adding a Tackle for competition even if it's a UDFA guy like Esa Pole, Wazzu or Caleb Etienne, BYU.

I’m not so sure he’d be WR2. His speed, which he said was going to be 4.2 or below ended uo being over 4.4 and that was his best trait.

Plus he has pending charges. No idea how that will turn out but its not something the cowboys seem to be interested in dealing with under Schottenheimer
Bond ran a 4.39 at the combine but more importantly, his top speed was the 2nd highest in the draft. If you want a deep threat, he is the guy. Not many backs can go as fast as he can at full speed. The risk with him is he doesn't play because of his legal issues.

He wasn't a near unanimous first round talent. A LOT of the people who analyzed him on the field had him as a 2nd or 3rd round talent who acted like Caleb Williams in interviews. The people who lauded him as a 1st round talent were people close to Deion plus a lot of the mock drafts were not what teams SHOULD do but what they thought they WOULD do. Those are two different things.

Sanders was a 2nd or 3rd round talent who was not ready to start day 1 who had a disastrous interview process that made him fall to the 5th. Now yes once a decade you get a day 3 QB who becomes a starter. However it is FAR more likely he joins the 100 or so others who end up either career backups or just out of the league. The idea that he is a 1st round talent is one pushed by people close to Deion, many of whom work in the media, but he simply is not. He holds the ball too long, struggles at making NFL throws, and has a mediocre arm at best, all with limited mobility. The fact that Mel was trying to hype the idea of putting him in a dome kind of highlights that he needs advantages to succeed. The scouts view him as a product of Hunter in the same way Manziel was a product of Mike Evans.
Shedeur Sanders was statistically the best QB against the blitz. He has the ability to process what's going on in front of him and make quick decisions. He had Hunter to throw to and not much else. A bad OL, a bad running game, a decent TE, and that's about it. He still managed to throw for 4000+ yards, 37 TDs, completing 74% of his passes last season. Lots of guys have thrown a ton of short passes, very few have finished with a better completion percentage. He was forced to throw into small windows regularly because the guys not named Hunter were not getting open, and he did so very successfully. He's a legit round 1 talent. We can agree to disagree here because this is going nowhere.

Do we use playing speed or 40 speed? Cause Golden ran a 4.28 and the knock on him was that he didn't play like a 4.28 athlete. With Bond he ran in the 4.4s but he plays much faster and was expected to run in the 4.3s. Were kind of double dipping on how we criticize these players aren't we?

This is true. I don't know how those trades will turn out, but they have to be figured in.

So our draft so far has been:
12. G Tyler Booker
44. DE Donovan Ezeiruaku
76. CB Shavon Revel Jr.
114. WR Jonathan Mingo
149. RB Jaydon Blue
152. LB Shemar James
170. CB Kairr Elam
171. QB Joe Milton III
188. LB Kenneth Murray

And on a couple of those, I believe we got a pick back. We'll see how the strategy pays off.
Take away the trades and our free agents were RB Javonte Williams, RB Miles Sanders, WR Parris Campbell, OL Robert Jones, OL Sahddiq Charles, OL Hakeem Adeniji, DT Solomon Thomas, DE Payton Turner, DE Dante Fowler and LB Jack Sanborn.

Quite a bit of change, but I don't know if any of it makes us better.

A perfect draft for the Cowboys to take a couple of DTs to build that defensive line and it looks like they will take none. After a few games people will be saying they can't stop the run. When they do, think back to this draft. If you were not going to fix it this weekend, then don't complain when things don't work out on Sundays.
Amen

I’d hold my nose and select Bond. Even if he plays til next year, so what. Not like they are legit SB contenders. Jerry is used to legal problems.
