1. CAROLINA PANTHERS: MARCELL DAREUS, DT, ALABAMA
Ndamukong Suh was so effective in his rookie season teams will try to find this year’s version. It starts with power and Dareus has it. Possesses an explosive initial punch that he combines with surprising burst of speed into the backfield. A low center of gravity guy allows him to anchor as NT/DT but also can flash pass rushing ability as DE in 3-4.

2. DENVER BRONCOS: PATRICK PETERSON, CB, LSU
The cleanest player in the draft meaning he has virtually no weakness in his game. Big enough to play press coverage as CB but also athletic and fast enough to play in the slot on passing downs similar to what Charles Woodson does for GB. Throw in his game breaking ability on special teams and you have an elite talent from day one.

This is what I think will happen. If the Bronocs don't take Gabbert, they take Peterson.

If the Bronocs take Peterson, the Bills select Gabbert. If the Broncos select Gabbert, I think the Bills are the best chance for Newton to go high. (I still can't fathom Rivera taking Newton, if he does; I will have lost all respect for him)

So we take a DT thats smaller than Ratliff and move him to nose where many feel doesn't belong. I don't get it.

I don't think Fairley would play NT. I think he will play DE. Actually, knowing what Rob Ryan likes to do, my guess is he would be play all over the line. Mixing it up with Ratliff and probably Spencer and Ware too.

I would take Dareus if i were in Carolina's shoes. That is the value pick with little downside, imo.

Taking a QB at #1 overall this year is a reach.

No way Denver takes Peterson at 2, way to much money after the deal they just gave Champ Bailey.

I think so too.

I don't see money being a problem here. Champ isn't 27 anymore and I'm sure they have a plan for him. (ie, he won't be a CB until he is 36)

what will they do, release him after giving him a monster deal and take a large cap hit. Yeah that makes sense. He has another few years left before they can cut him and with that kind of money he will be playing unless he retires. I don't see them paying Peterson #2 money and Bailey his contract for a few more years year.

Don't bring up the rookie pay scale because no one knows how much thats going to be. It might be the same as last years rookies got paid. No matter what the #2 pick is getting a fat deal.

If they take peterson, I imagine they move Champ to Safety (which I think he has already said he would have no problem moving to that position).

wow I don't see him as a FS. I would rather have Peterson as a FS over Bailey. I guess thats another option they can do but thats alot of money in the secondary.

Personally...I would rather dallas trade all the way back to early mid 20's and take Aaron Williams - who i think is going to be by far the best free safety in this draft...once he realizes he just isn't quick enough for CB. Dallas would pick up enough draft picks from trading down to fill out the Offensive line and DL/LB depth issues. But...i just see teams getting nervous and selecting or trading up for Newton, Gabbert, Julio Jones or Von Miller....and Fairley slipping. I think Ryan would make a very strong case to Jerry if Fairley is sitting there at 9...heck he might not even have to make a case because jerry loves huge upside guys and it wasn't that long ago that Fairley was number 1 on a lot of board. You have to be a special talent to even be mentioned at first pick overall. He can be as good as Suh.

Fairley has had a lot of bad press lately about him standing up people and skipping meetings; and not all from one source either. So I VERY much doubt it.

One thing that both the vast majority of the NFL veterans and the owners agree on is a rookie wage scale. The NFL has already offered it to the vets. So it will certainly happen.

2/22/2010: Signed a four-year, $43 million contract. The deal contains $15 million guaranteed, including a $5 million first-year bonus, all of Bailey's first-year salary, and $4 million of his second-year salary. Another $7 million is guaranteed for injury only. 2011: $6 million, 2012: $7.5 million (+ $7 million roster bonus due in March), 2013-2014: $9 million, 2015: Free Agent

the way I read it -

Champ price tag this year is only 6 mil

he already been paid the big bucks

I don't think they envisioned him as a safety when they signed him to that contract. They might have it as a backup plan to salvage the contract if he gets too old/slow for CB.

Also, I don't think Dallas would move Newman to safety even if he was good at it. His contract is just too much for a safety.

I just think Denver will take best player on the board. IF Marcell Dareus is gone number 1 (i think he will) then denver takes Peterson. If Dareus is there at number 2...then Denver would take him

been saying that for a month

I bet you Fox wants Dareous bad - to shore up that D line

Cornerback: If there is a free agency period, Richard Marshall will not return to the Panthers in 2011; there is a nice little rift going on between him and the ownership group. Captain Munnerlyn is not a top flight corner, and never will be in the NFL. That said, he projects to be a solid #2 or nickel player. With all of the uncertainty in regards to the Panthers roster one would think that cornerback would not be one of the largest needs for them.
However, you have to look a bit deeper than just the exterior statistics. Carolina's talent level at that position is horribly weak, they don't have a player to step in to replace Richard Marshall and Chris Gamble continues to regress as a player. Normally I would say that the offensive line is a larger need for Carolina, which it may as well be. But, there is absolutely no tackle prospect worth the first overall pick in 2011.

Dallas will not pass on Tyron Smith to draft Nick Fairley. You can bank that.

The Browns "settle" for A.J. Green.

He may be the best player in the draft.:lmao:

Tyson Smith is a RT...until proven otherwise. That being said...I am not convinced Jerry Jones uses a top 9 draft selection (and big money) on a guy who nobody knows can play LT. If Dallas is set on drafting a RT...they could simply trade back to high teens and select Gabe Carimi.

To me, the biggest lock in the draft is that Dareus will be gone in the 1st 2 picks.
