Jan 20 - COWBOYS TRADE OUT: Matthew Valdovinos of profootballnetwork.com published his latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft, a three-round mock with the Cowboys trading out of the No. 10 pick and accumulating an additional second-round pick in the process.

The scenario allowed the Cowboys to pick up three defensive players in the first two rounds, two of which are familiar to Cowboys mock draft followers — South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn and TCU safety Trevon Moehrig.

In this scenario, both Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II and Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley are off the board. The trading partner is the Miami Dolphins, who take Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell at No. 3. The Dolphins package their No. 18 and No. 36 picks and ship them to Dallas so Miami can take Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith (a big assumption that Smith would even be available at No. 10).

But, with the trade, the Cowboys took Horn at No. 18 and Moehrig at No. 36, both of which would address some of the team’s glaring needs in the secondary.

Valdovinos then has the Cowboys taking Iowa defensive lineman Daviyon Nixon with their No. 44 selection. Nixon (6-foot-3, 305 pounds) was a unanimous All-American.

Then in the third round Valdovinos addressed the offensive line as he had the Cowboys taking Stanford offensive tackle Walker Little, who opted out of the 2020 season and declared for the NFL Draft.

Me too. lol It may not fix every issue on defense but that draft could go a long way in improving for next season and years down the road.

It doesnt matter who we lose. If were pickong 2 dbs we better fix the dline or next year will end the same as this one. With antonio freaking gibson running down our throat. What is Surtain gonna do about that?

This mock draft brings in one of the top DT, fact is this is not an overly rich DT draft but Nixon is a damn good player. So in your world we lose 2 CB in FA in the secondary and replace them with what? I agree Cowboys need to be able to stop the run and this draft should it fall this way, brings in a quality DT and puts young talent and a FS into the secondary. Only other option is paying big money in FA be it at DT or in the secondary.

You're taking it too personal. Its all fun and games we just disagree. I dont mond Nixon, im just saying you have to sign a free agent dt thats not another antwan woods either. Show me a team in the playoffs this year with a rookie, 2nd year and third year dt. And the third year dt like Hill never recorded a sack his first 2 years. Im just saying.

Pair any good corner with Moehrig, is a good draft. That would make our secondary very good moving forward.

I'm beginning to think both Farley and Surtain will be off the board at 10.

Probably depends on how many QBs end up in the top 10.

Add Horn and Moehrig to the secondary and Nixon to the defensive interior? I really like all three of those guys.

Then, just go ahead and spend in free agency to bring in Tomlinson at DT and the defense would have a chance to be much, much better than last year.

I also like Little and think he’d be good year one as the swing tackle and have a chance to be a good starter down the line. If Philbin made an UDFA passable at tackle this year, he could do a whole lot more with Little.

However, in this draft scenario, I’d way rather have Cameron McGrone LB from Michigan (who goes 14 picks after Little). He’s one of my favorite off ball LB’s in this draft. Athletic, fast, has great lateral quickness... he’s a Jimmy Johnson linebacker. He can get to the sideline in a hurry. With McGrone added to Horn, Nixon, and Moehrig, the defense would be well on its way to holding up its end of the bargain with the potent Dallas offense.

Taking those guys to camp would give Quinn a chance for a big turnaround. A couple of those DL probably wouldn’t make it out of camp but that unit would be Muc improved. Actually, it would probably be improved even with last year’s players because Quinn will have them more sound fundamentally... with the new guys, the improvement could be stark.

However, I think Nixon goes in the first, so that would wreck this dream draft. Still, I do really like Horn, Moehrig, Nixon and McGrone.

I'd jump for joy if we could get Horn, Moehrig and Nixon, but I'd probably hold off the offensive tackle in the third and get a beefy DT to line up next to Nixon.

If we added Tomlinson, I'd be fine with that. I just can't see us paying what it will take to get Tomlinson.

I also think Nixon goes in the first, and might even end up climbing to our pick, but I'm hopeful that he's around in the second.

DT’s are a lot less expensive in FA than CB’s are.
Address big 1 tech in FA, and get another developmental guy like Tommy Togiai in day 3.
