Mr Meister, Agreed. Saw him on nfl network. He's a hand puppet.

Maybe it's time for these networks to look outside the roster of retired players to find their analysts.

There are probably some young broadcasters out there who have a sense of humor and a personality, who are smart and will at least occasionally say something interesting.

It's like they take the easy road.

"We have a spot open on our pre-game show."

"OK, any players retire since last year?"

"Yep, Rich Gannon."

"Hire him."

Howard Cosell use to be livid about what was becoming a "trend", ex-players getting the broadcasting jobs over professionally trained radio/tv or print journalists. He felt ex-jocks were dummies who had no place in the booth. (well, outside of Dandy or maybe ESPECIALLY Don:) )

Now it's so ordinary an occurance I saw Trev Albert (like had had some big pro career) irate on ESPN about a year ago, griping no one who hasn't played should be in a booth or studio OR on the sidelines (which of course, eliminates all the gals, as well as the Boomers). And this putz was dead SERIOUS.

Poor Howard would turn over in his grave.

When the Costas and Bucks are gone, I am sure someone will step in to replace them, but the competition from jocks will be fierce, and it's doubtful there will ever be such a pool of savvy pros as there was in years past. Even the ones who irritated the heck out me, (like Curt Gowdy,) I miss.

I thought of Howard when I posted that. You're right. He would have something to say about it.

Trev Alberts has lost his mind. I watch guys all the time who have played the game all their life, yet they can't put a sentence together and are afraid to say anything the least bit controversial about someone still playing.

There needs to be a mix of ex-players who have the talent to become broadcasters and guys who have studied and trained to do it.
