yet they're raising prices on just about everything.

I just renewed my Sunday Ticket. It went up another $20 this year, up to a total of $280. They're " window dressing it " by splitting out the payments over 10 MONTHS ( $28 per month ).

All Direct tv has accomplished was to force me to cut down on their other services. I went from a Premier package which was $117 per month, to the extra choice package, which is $58 per month. With the ST, my bill will still be nearly $100 per month ( because of taxes ), but it would be $65 less per month ( over six months because of ST ) than before.

I've been a subscriber since the ST was $99 back in the early to middle '90's, and if this package keeps going up at this rate, it will eventually become unaffordable for the regular " joe six pack ".

I'm not ordering Sunday Ticket this year. The two or three games I might miss aren't worth $100 each.

Wow, up to 280? I had a big dish when i bought my first house back in 1991 and for several years you could get all the Cowboys games on wild feeds. Then they scrambled them so i had to go with direct TV and it was $99. Now i live in a much larger town that has several sports bars so when the Boys aren't on i just go down to the bar. Soon i'm moving back to my home town of 4K people so i guess it's either drive 100 miles to the nearest sports bar when they aren't on or fork over the 300 bucks.

i have direct tv, used to have cable with suddenlink, but i dropped suddenlink because they were suppose to air some cowboys programs and a person in tyler that didnt like the cowboys stuff would wath something else

so i got peeved and finally dropped suddenlink

now at the time i got direct tv to have nfl network i thought i was set up for the cowboys to go to the super bowl in january of 2008, but after the big playoff game against the giants, boy was i ever wrong, same ole cowboys, they could care less about winning, they just wanted their stats so jerry jones would pay them big mega bucks when their contracts came up

but i still have direct tv and nfl network, at least i can watch scouting combine and nfl draft more coverage etc,

and maybe the cowboys players will finally want to do something this year, but im not holdng my breath,

No sports bars near?

I've got a ton of sports bars here but it's not that big of a deal. Until the team starts to care about what they're doing instead of what they're getting paid we're not going anywhere. So my emotional investment has gone down considerably.

Dallas is almost guaranteed to have 8 to 10 games on TV anyway so it always seemed like a waste to buy it. I wish they would sell the individual games though. I would pay $25 for a Cowboys game that wasn't being televised.

I've kept Sunday Ticket over the years, despite living in Texas, mainly to keep an eye on out-of-market teams whose games are relevant to the 'Boys. You know, the Commanders, Eagles, and occasionally Packers or such.

Doubt I'll do that (purchase the package) this year.

My guess is it was DirecTV that raised the price, not the NFL.

Perhaps, but I think Direct tv doesn't pass on that dramatic raise unless it has to pay more for the rights.

The NFL, imo, is making a mistake by making Direct TV it's exclusive carrier. It doesn't maximize their revenues and it restricts their access. For example, the only way you can get access through the internet is by subscribing to the Sunday Ticke PLUS an " supersport " thingy that's just an extra $100 ( total price is around $400 ).

MLB and NBA allow other carriers to broadcast their packages AND they have internet packages that are extremely affordable ( less than $100 for their broadcasts on the net ) and seperate from their TV packages. I know for a fact that MLB's Net package has made them huge profits over the past 2 to 3 years, and the NBA is on their way too since they separated their net package from their TV package this year.

IN 5 years, ST will cost around $400 ( at this rate ) and they can count me out when it gets that high.

Until the NFL allows more than one provider to carry the NFL Sunday Ticket I won't be buying it... I think the NFL should be more like the NBA and let both cable and satellite providers carry the channel.

Well, they signed a long-term contract, so most likely any increased cost would be already in the contract. So that leads back to the point that the NFL isn't raising costs at the same time they're laying off employees.

$280 plus another $140 if you want to watch the games in HD. It is a total joke!

You people do not have to pay that, you have to understand negotiating. It's just like in business. You have to leverage your strengths.

And you have that. You are the consumer. Without you they don't make money. The single most important thing to them is a steady revenue stream, which you provide them in the form of monthly payments. They count on that for operating capital.

What you have is the fact that you can take that revenue stream away. SO here is what you do.

You call them and tell them you are tired of the high cost of this ONE service you get from them in addition to paying for the regular monthly service.

You then explain that you will be looking at other options including Comcast and whatever else you have in the area and you wanted to give them a fair shot at earning your business. At that point they will ask what you like about the ST and you tell them whatever you want but in the end you simply say that the cost of the ST is simply too high to maintain service with them so you are looking at these other options.

You tell them that you only see maybe three or four Cowboy games a year because they are generally on national broadcast TV and you are not paying 75.00 per game to watch them.

At that point they start negotiating. If you stick to your guns you can get the ST for around 100.00 including the super fan which would include the HD games.

In the end you will have leveraged your strengths against their weakness.

I'm going to try this tomorrow Cajuncowboy and report what happens.

I just canceled the ST because of price, especially since you have to pay extra for HD.

I would wait til June to do this. You will be in a better position then because that's when they will make the big push for the ST.
