If there was a Mt. Rushmore for the NFL, these are the faces I think would be on the mountain.

Art Rooney, George Halas, Vince Lombardi, & Tex Schramm.

You are more than welcome to disagree, just tell me who yours would be when you do.

Why Tex Schramm? Is there more than just his Cowboy influence?

Only if it's a popularity contest.

The AFL - NFL merger. He spent 20 years on the competition committee and many of the things in the game today were his ideas.

Remove Favre. Add Unitas. The 1958 Championship Game is a huge moment in NFL history.

Schramm had a tremendous influence on the NFL. For example, do you remember back before the CGI first down line was invented, the fans on TV had to rely on the red-orange strip on the sidelines. That was Tex Schramm. The wind strips on the goalposts was his idea, as was hiring Pete Rozelle into the league (with the Rams). He proposed the idea of the modern-day scouting combine. He pushed for instant replay in its various early forms. He was one of the leaders in the merger of the NFL and AFL. I even read once that the referees microphone was his idea. He was one of the makers of the modern NFL.

Mt. Rushmore is over-rated.
Right! There is an anti-Cowboys bias in the selection criteria.

Okay, it was a stretch. :D

That would be the group right there.

But since it's not Mt Rushmore, let's go ahead and add Tex Schramm as well. :D
