NFL needs to examine the cause of J Will's injury

He was injured cause the RB dove over the line and landed on the back of his legs while he was engaged with a blocker. This is very dangerous. The NFL should make a new rule prohibiting any player from diving over the pile. Not only is it dangerous for the defenders who are engaged, but it is also dangerous for the player who is diving. Remember the Chicago game, Emmitt dove and got a neck injury. That one play could have ended his career.

Had the league already prohibited such a play, J Will would not be injured right now.

BTW, while the tone of this thread has been quite serious, my intent is quite sarcastic. My point is that the NFL has made rule after rule to wussify the league and make it more of a pansy sport, all in the name of trying to keep players from injury. IMO, this type of play fits into the category of horse collar tackling.

They will make a new rule as soon as a Cheatriots player gets injured the same way.

At least they will have it on tape and can have a look at it.

I mean in case the tv cams didn't capture it.

Diving over the pile is a risk the RB understands as well as the defense trying to prevent the TD. In other words it is part of the game!!

apparently there are some who have read my thread and even replied that are taking it all way too seriously. while the first paragraph of my original post was in a very serious tone, it was done with a sidebar of sarcasm. the whole point of this thread is to show that injuries happen on common plays. just because injuries occur on such plays, doesn't mean the league has to go all out in taking those types of plays away.

Diving over the pile is dangerous for the player doing so, as he is head first and in position to incure a head or spinal injury. It is also dangerous for anyone on engaged with an OL, as the RB falls onto the back of their legs, and could cause a serious leg injury.

Still, it is part of football and should not be taken out of the game. I feel the same way about the horsecollar tackle. Though players have gotten injured recently, I still feel it should be an allowable form of tackling. I also feel that if a WR is going up for a catch, once the ball touches him, he should be completely fair game for a defender to hit. If the WR doesn't want to be upended, don't go up for the catch.

Basically, the topic of this thread is just another way the NFL can further wussify it's product.

This rule will come one day. That day will be as soon as the Cowboys have a RB that noone seems to be able to stop when he jumps over the pile at the goaline.
