JC_NFL: Cowboys coach Jason Garrett talks about the time he spent with Mike Krzyzewski at Duke recently.

Question for Coach Garrett:

What do you think of 20 year old OT Tyron Smith weighing in at 307 and having nearly 37 inch arms? ;)

scout.com

ScoutNFL: Colorado’s Nate Solder, Scout.com’s top-ranked offensive tackle, is a towering man at 6-foot-8 and 319 pounds with an 81-inch wingspan.
“That’s what I’ve been working on,” he joked of his long reach.

.....

“The pressure that’s there is on myself to be the best that I can be,” he said. “I don’t feel a whole lot of pressure from anyone else because I feel if I can perform at my highest level, everything will take care of itself.”

... At least he has a Plan B, with a degree in biology and a 3.52 grade point average.

JC_NFL: Cowboys coach Jason Garrett is currently at the podium. He'll be the last coach/GM to speak Thursday. The action is starting to slow down. [via Twitter]

ScoutNFL: Penn State guard/center Stefen Wisniewski was introduced to speak at one end of the media room at the same time Rex Ryan was speaking. “I think I’m less entertaining than him for sure,” Wisniewski deadpanned.

Wisniewski said he finds it entertaining how his uncle Steve Wisnieski tries to defend himself when people label him as a dirty player. Stefen said Steve, an eight-time all-pro with the Raiders in the 1990s, believes he is misunderstood.- Tim Yotter, VikingUpdate.com

ScoutNFL: So many of the premier offensive tackles these days are 6-6, 6-7 and even 6-8, although it still seemed strange when one reporter referred to Mississippi State's Derek Sherrod as one of the "shorter" prospects in the draft at his position. He's far from worried, as the 6-5, 321-pounder believes being an inch or two smaller than some of his compatriots gives him an advantage from a leverage perspective and getting underneath the pads of enemy pass rushers. Sure, he's spent some time inside at guard, but Sherrod is on record saying he's engineered to be a left tackle at the game's highest level and thinks he's "NFL-ready" to protect the blind side. -- John Crist, Scout.com NFL Analyst

ScoutNFL: Probably the No. 2 tight end on the board behind Notre Dame's Kyle Rudolph, Tennessee's Luke Stocker was one of the better performers on display at the Senior Bowl last month and seems to have separated himself from Arkansas' D.J. Williams. Stocker hopes to run a 4.65 in the 40-yard dash, which would be a great time for a dual-threat tight end like himself that can both catch and block. Also, unlike some of the more shy players at the podium in Indianapolis, he's not overly worried about the interview process and being poked and prodded by talent evaluators all week long: "It's pretty cool, to be honest with you." -- John Crist, Scout.com NFL Analyst

ScoutNFL: Slippery Rock center Brandon Fusco said he gave up one sack last year and it still haunts him. “I can’t stop thinking about it,” he said. He admitted that NFL offenses and defense are much more complicated than the Division II looks he was dissecting. -Tim Yotter, VikingUpdate.com

ScoutNFL: Another potential first-round offensive tackle, Boston College's Anthony Castonzo, said the best player he faced in college is another soon-to-be first rounder: North Carolina defensive end Robert Quinn. Just in case this football stuff doesn't work out for Castonzo, he can always lean on his degree in -- really? -- biochemistry. And despite the fact that he's a Chicago guy, he won't let any hometown bias cloud his judgment: "I'm gonna be a Bears fan until the day I get drafted." -- John Crist, Scout.com NFL Analyst

ScoutNFL: Despite playing eight years straight at left tackle, dating back to high school and then all the way through college, Villanova's Ben Ijalana is projected as a guard in the NFL since he's 6-3 and not 6-7. Because of a sports hernia that required surgery in December, Ijalana wasn't able to compete at the Senior Bowl -- he said having to turn down the invitation left him "bummed" -- and won't work out this week at the Scouting Combine, either. But he'll be ready to give it a go Mar. 16 at his Pro Day. Why did he get into football, like so many of his fellow native Nigerians have lately? "Eventually," he said, "you get too big for soccer." -- John Crist, Scout.com NFL Analyst

ScoutNFL: T Derek Sherrod, Mississippi State, on how well the SEC has prepared him for the NFL: “It’s prepared me very well. I feel like the SEC is among the best when it comes to athletes, the speed and the physical aspects of the game. You can go and look at any SEC game of the week and it will be very physical. Competing with each other, it’s going to be very hard fought and that’s the epitome of the league.”
