NFL Network Gameday Debate About Confidence in the Cowboys

We just beat two crappy teams by last minute field goals. that puts my confidence gauge at about a quarter of a tank.

somebody wake me up when we beat a good team.

You still have to go out there and beat those bad teams. Those bad teams have good players on them too. I don't recall us beating any team that was winless.

so when we lose a last second game, we aren't clutch, can't close and suck. When we win a close game at the end, we suck?

I think the argument is that we should be blowing out "poor teams." Of course, the definition of "poor team" seems to be a matter of some dispute.

No reason to get so butt hurt, I was asking you an honest question. Which teams do you think are "poor teams"?

Sorry, but I'm not "butt hurt" (whatever the F that means). But you need to pay attention. My entire point is that focusing on "poor" versus "good" teams is irrelevant because poor teams can play very well on some occasions and good teams can play very badly. So anyone who simply looks at the win-loss records of the Commanders and Dolphins and arrives at the conclusion that beating those teams were not significant accomplishments is taking a really simplistic viewpoint, and one which completely disregards the fact that there are any number of examples in which teams with poor records have beaten (or at least played very competitively against) teams with good records.

So again, I watch the teams play. The Commanders and Dolphins teams I saw played far better and harder than their records would indicate and as such, are very good wins for the Cowboys. Conversely, the Bills team that we faced was far worse than their record would indicate and as such, I don't put a lot of stock in that victory, despite the fact that we blew them out.

What teams are "poor teams" in the NFL today? Are there any according to you?

The Dolphins weren't at the time we played them. 3-0 in the previous 3 games allowing 1 TD. I hope the Cowboys can achieve a 3 game stretch like that this season and that it starts in January!

The Bills were a poor team. At least they were weaker than the Dolphins at the time we played them.

The Rams were a poor team.

OMT and it has nothing to do with you post, but I'm seeing it more and more with the negative nancy's trying to downplay any and all Cowboy accomplishments.....

What's up with this BS that the Niners stunk when we played them but improved going forward????????
They may have improved people's perception of what they are 2, 4, 6 weeks after we played them. But they weren't plaing better. They were 1-0, lost to us, and won the next 8. How's that make them better in week 10 than week 2. I look over their results and it appears fairly uniform to me.

I give up.

I don't think he really understood your post. IMO, your post was a good one.

Although teams with losing records might be considered poor teams, they can still give you a run for your money, and sometimes hand you your *** on a platter.

The Cowboys straight up got out coached in that Philly game. Our coaching staff was completely blindsided by Philly's game plan. By the time they started to adapt defensively, the game was already way out of hand. The offense never adapted.

If anything concerns me more than anything else going into December to make the palyoofs, and then playing in the playoffs, it's our coaching staff's ability to anticipate the other team's game plan and set our accordingly.

I just want to know what the poor teams are, so if we barely beat them we can justifiably be concerned. According to his logic, if a team "plays well" regardless of their record, they aren't really a "poor team." So how do we know if its the other team playing well or our team playing poorly? Just by "watching the games"? We all saw the same games the last two weeks and yet opinions differ widely. According to a lot of people on here, we played very poorly against the Commanders and the Dolphins--or at least the defense did.

I actually don't think think the Dolphins suck; not sure about the Commanders; yet a lot of people on here the last two weeks boldly proclaimed that we have no business being in the playoffs if we couldn't beat these teams and we just barely survived each game. An argument could be made that we "should have" lost both games.

Are the Eagles a "poor team"?

Actually, IMO, the NFL is full of professional football players and coaches. How they go about their business is what dictates their eventual outcome.

Football is dynamic, not static. You cannot predict what will happen from game to game, or from play to play. There are just so many moving parts that it cannot be determined what will happen from one day to the other.

That's why us junkies like this game...it's fun as hell!!

:D ;)

SO should the Steelers be concerned about barely beating the Chiefs? The Ravens about losing to the Jags and Seattle? As well as the Giants losing to Seattle, and having tough games with Arizona and Miami in which they barely won?

Are the Steelers, Ravens, and Giants not a real threat in the playoffs (If they make it) because they didn't roll over teams that people assume that they should roll over because it's not like Dallas is the only team in playoff contention, to have won close or lost to teams with current losing records.

Great point...

I believe that people are correct in their concern about the inconsistancy of the Dallas Cowboys. We are a highly talented team than can show up and play like we did against the Bills or like we did against the Eagles.

Showing up like we did against the Eagles in the playoffs will be the end of our season. This is concerning.

The word "trust" is being misused here, I really don't think the Cowboys are as inconsistent as they are mediocre/deficient in several areas. How these areas match up against their foes on any given weekend makes a huge difference on how smoothly the offense runs and well the defense performs.

I think this is a second tier team, slightly above average, but not dominant in any area and not solid overall,,, so some weekends they look great, some weekends they fall back to Earth. There shouldn't be any "trust" given, just curiosity on how far this team can go before they are outmatched and sent home.

On the NFC side I would definitely put the Saints and Packers on the first tier, neither team is without flaw but both have dominant offenses that make up for it. The rest of us have work to do...

The 4 teams to beat out of the NFC when its all said and done are going to be the division winners: Dallas, San Francisco, Greenbay, New Orleans.

I think any one of those teams is capable of beating or losing to eachother, depending on who got rolling first. Yes, even Greenbay is probably not excited about having to face those 3 teams in the playoffs.

So, you would disagree with those who proclaim each week, "We have no business being in the playoffs if we can't beat team X."? BTW, its only a matter of time before we hear that about the Cardinals this week.

I don't have much confidence in the Cowboys. I know they are capable of winning out, but their play is extremely inconsistent. With inconsistent play comes a high probability of losing.

Can't be very confident in them until they prove they can play with consistency.

Dude look around the league..The Pack inconsistent on D..The last time I looked there 11-0.

I thought you knew this is the NFL.. Those 90's Dallas teams had some inconsistent play and even started 0-2 and won it all that year...

Another stupid post with no confidence.

Hey...We get into the playoffs and anything can happen...Bring on the Pack..Is that confidence for you....

NFL...Not For Long... So get out... :laugh2:
