NFL Network's Top 10 Rivalries was on last night. Cowboys-49ers was #10, Cowboys-Eagles was #9 and Cowboys-Steelers was on there as well. However, Cowboys-Commanders didn't even make the cut. What gives?

BTW, Giants-Eagles was #1. That's a bigger rivalry than Cowboys-Commanders?

Probably due to the fact both teams have been doormats for most of the last 20 years. They've rarely played with anything substantial at stake.

This.

If Giants-Eagles is #1, then the NFL is in trouble when it comes to good rivalries.

I thought to have a great rivalry something has to be at stake. When have the Giants-Eagles every played a big game with something at stake? I know they played a game that knocked the Giants out of the playoffs, IIRC. But when else have these two teams played with something like a playoff birth, a NFC Championship or a Super Bowl appearance at stake?

Well, now that the divisions are only four teams, every division game seems to carry some playoff implications. But I thought great rivalries were based on levels of pure hatred? If that is the case, its hard to see how Cowboys-Commanders doesn't make the cut ahead of Steelers-Ravens (yes, that was on the list).

I don't know what's funny. The Cowboys and Commanders have both been one of the worst teams in the league over the last 15 plus years. It's hard to sustain a great rivalry when neither team is playing for anything most years.

If those teams ever turn around you'd see the rivalry reborn again, but right now nobody outside of the two fan bases gives a bleep about it.

I would put the Steelers/Ravens at the top of my list.

I was laughing at your statement that they haven't played a game of substance in several years. That just sound funny to me. I'm not disagreeing with you.

That rivalry isn't even a decade old.

Well what's the criteria? Greatest rivalries in history or the best right now?

If it's the latter, yeah...Steelers/Ravens would probably be my top choice.

Rivalries are pretty dead these days. With so much turnover of the rosters every year, you just don't have the hate between the players like you used to. The faces change too much to identify any one group as the Cowboys or the Commanders. He may be a Cowboy this year and a Commander the next.

Only the fans still care much about it.

Sad and true at the same time. Most "rivalries" these days pop up and last but a few years maybe. Before F/A the turnover in personnel was slower and smoother, helping to sustain rivalries from one generation to the next.

The decade thing is irrelevant.

The teams and the cities hate each other.

It seems the division is always at stake when they play.

It has to be at the top of the list right now.

Not another rivalry that comes close presently.

I loved the Pats/Colts rivalry too. Maybe Luck can recreate it. Maybe as early as this Sunday. Should be an interesting game that I'd watch every snap of if Peyton Manning wasn't playing on another channel.
