Worst officiating moment in the history of the NFL in my opinion. They call that obvious pass interference and the Saints basically kneel on the ball 3 times, kick the FG and its game over.

In the last 5 minutes of a game officials need to be able to review stuff like that.

Horrible idea.

Why are penalties more important to catch in the final 5 minutes than in the other 55 minutes? The Rams /Saints may have only been that close at the end because of missed calls earlier in the game. Even a missed offsides or delay of game penalty in the first qtr. could lead to a chain of events that changes the outcome of the game.

Officiating just needs to get better.

I don't think replaying the entire game works. But the last 5 minutes affect the outcome more then anything. And I wouldn't be doing the offsides stuff. Just possibly helmet to helmet, personal foul, and PI stuff.

Before that game, I was basically against reviewing plays to call/change penalties. Now I'm in the process of reviewing and possibly changing that thought.

I mean, this missed penalty was just so bad.

because the saints could have simply ran out the clock and they gave the Rams a free drive..

At this point, I think that the coaches tell players that if you get beat, just go ahead and do the PI. They only call it half the time anyway. So in affect they are cutting down 50% on the amount they get beat.

True, but IMO, not relevant. Just like I believe a missed call that costs a team a TD in the first quarter is no less egregious than one in the final 5 seconds.

Not sure how you cant understand the dramatic difference in those two situations. In the first quarter if you blow a call, you have 3 quarters left.

That blown call decided the game.

Post of the day!!!! You know it was bad when NFL officials told Payton they blew a controversial no call on a potential pass interference. Payton said "the play was not only pass interference, but it was also helmet-to-helmet".

To top it off, bookies are crediting customers bets that picked the Saints. This will go down in history on how a team advanced to the Super Bowl on a blown call in the final minutes of a playoff.

I truly believe had this been a regular season game, the call (s) would have been made.

Will Cain mentioned some crazy rule that if the officals wanted to they could have given the Saints a 2minute clock addition at the end of the game with the ball and let them replay the end.. some weird thing..its supposed to be for these exact moments where a simple recheck of the play even on the big board in the stadium is easy to see it was a egregious no call..that was the late 4th but what about the INt by brees it was also a PI that caused that..he pushed the reciver with ball in air to make play on ball..

I see the dramatic and emotional difference. I just don't believe the rules should be bent, or applied differently, based on their dramatic effect or emotional impact. That's exactly what is wrong with the NFL today.

I want objective rules applied and enforced objectively. If I want manufactured drama, I'll watch HBO.

Absolutely. And on that play, the rules were ignored.

Dont see your angle on Drama. Its about getting themost important calls right. Its about avoiding what just happened.

I agree with you, but it's never gonna happen. Well, the apologie part isn't. If I had to guess, there will be instant replay for fouls in the near future. I don't think they will have any choice.

NFL has already admitted it was a missed call. That's an apology.

We just disagree on what is most "important" . I believe they are all important and should be handled the same way, not by some subjective arbitrary decision in real time about how significant the penalty might be on the outcome of the game.

Meh, it was a bad no call. Payton needs to apologize for his horrible clock management, once again.
