ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders canceled the final week of their offseason training program Friday after complaints from the NFL players' union about the intensity of the practices.
In a brief statement, coach Lane Kiffin said the players' union believes the Raiders' offseason program violated league rules on practice standards.
"The union has complained about the high level of intensity, player aggressiveness and fast pace of our practices and, as a result, has taken away the final week of our offseason program," said Kiffin, the NFL's youngest and least experienced head coach.
The Raiders won't hold next week's scheduled offseason activities, which were expected to be mostly weightlifting sessions.
Oakland wrapped up a voluntary minicamp on Wednesday under Kiffin, a former assistant coach at Southern California. He had just one season of NFL training camp experience as an assistant in Jacksonville in 2000.
The Raiders' training camp opens July 27 in Napa.

More like the players' union. Goodell doesn't really have a dog in the fight (no pun intended...ok, maybe it was intended).

Does Kiffin think that being a **** will endear any of the players to him?

Oh well, that isn't really his job... maybe he wanted to show them whose boss.

Goodell is cracking down on ish in this league... only I wonder if he is worrying about the right things.

"Our players don't get paid enough to go through high intense, fast paced practices." - NFLPA

I like "Lance" Kiffin as a coach already, or atleast I like the way he's approaching things, he's just got a bunch of worthless, punk sissy players, kinda like the Giants do. These players today would've never survived Jimmy's "asthma field".

This is a union thing- the League throwing them a bone after owning their butts otherwise.

It's a damn shame when a self-proclaimed professional football athlete cries to his union about the 'high intensity level', 'aggressiveness' and 'fast paced practices' of a minicamp. That's just butt sad. What the heck is he going to do when the REAL thing starts up soon? Sue Al Davis for intolerable working conditions???

OK. I've read the article 3 times now.

Can someone explain what Goodell has to do with any of this?

some people want to blame Goodell for everything. Just like they want to blame BP for everything that went wrong with the Boys.

I am with you on this. Last time I checked, Goodell is has nothing to do with the opinions and functioning of the NFLPA.

This really has nothing to do with Goodell...this is all on the players union....but kudos to the Raiders for not kowtowing to the players...unfortunately for them though, the players get an extra week off. Maybe they should have had the second week more intense instead of the first, huh?

They can't cry to their union when contact approved workouts start. I'm pretty sure most team's workouts are breaking rules. Seattle has reports they are breaking rules, Commanders players saying they have had less contact in college games then they had in their workout. But the only action was taken on the raiders? Hmm....

Most of the players at the raiders don't want to get injured so they get better contracts when they are cut/traded to real teams.
