NFL Outsider had an interesting slant to power rankings. They took each team's weakest link (ex. RBs, Oline, etc) and ranked the league according to that. It won't translate to the actual ranking but it's a worth a look...and I know there will be some debate on our Cowboys.

Anyway, here's what NFL Outsider came up with, as to rank the teams 32-to-1 by determining each team's weakest link.

32. Jacksonville Jaguars: Wide Receiver (worst? poor Garrard..lol)
31. Kansas City Chiefs: Pass Rush
30. Oakland Raiders: Wide Receivers (I think they are the worst)
29. St. Louis Rams: Wide Receiver
28. Denver Broncos: Defensive Back Seven
27. Detroit Lions: Defensive Line
26. Seattle Seahawks: Running Back
25. Buffalo Bills: Offensive Tackle
24. Cincinnati Bengals: Interior Offensive Line
23. Chicago Bears: Wide Receiver
22. Green Bay Packers: Offensive Line
21. Houston Texans: Secondary
20. Cleveland Browns: Inside Linebacker
19. Atlanta Falcons: Secondary
18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Wide Receiver
17. Minnesota Vikings: Pass Protection
16. New York Giants: Wide Receiver
15. Washington Commanders: Offensive Line
14. New York Jets: Wide Receiver
13. Pittsburgh Steelers: Interior Offensive Line
12. Miami Dolphins: Secondary
11. San Francisco 49ers: Secondary
10. Dallas Cowboys: Offensive Tackles (hmm...interesting....)
The comments...
Flozell Adams and Marc Columbo are two starting quality tackles in the NFL, but neither should be starting on the great offense the Cowboys believe they have, and the first backup is a mid round rookie draft pick from the power house that is the Ball St. Cardinals, Robert Brewster. Not among the weakest links in the league, but still pretty bad for a playoff contender. OT is simply a position that the Cowboys have gone too long without addressing.
9. Tennessee Titans: Quarterback
8. Arizona Cardinals: Run Blocking
7. Carolina Panthers: Quarterback
6. Indianapolis Colts: Offensive Tackles
5. Philadelphia Eagles: Secondary
4. New Orleans Saints: Pass Rush
3. San Diego Chargers: Defensive Line
2. Baltimore Ravens: Running Back
1. New England Patriots: Pass Rush

They really don't bash the OTs...just seem to think it's the worst unit on the team.

I would think some might say Inside Linebackers or maybe even WR. The seconday will be better, imo.

I also think our Tackles or less of a weak link than say, Zona's Run Blocking or the New Orleans pass rush (but the Greg Williams hire shoud help that).

Also, I might like the Ravens RBs better than their WRs.

Sort of a strange analysis. I'm not sure I buy the weakest link in the chain argument because the Steelers' O-line was pretty bad last year.

5. Philadelphia Eagles: Secondary

Somehow, I just don't think so ... with both Sheldon Brown and Asante Samuel. Either way, we don't profess to be a playoff team at this juncture.

What unit do consider to be the weakest on the Eagles?

And by "we"...did you mean the Eagles? If so, I'd say of course they are consdered a playoff team...maybe even a SB contender.

I agree. I just thought it was an diffent slant to look at in th summer doldrums. I don't even agree on how they ranked the units or even which units they chose as weakest for each team...but I still thought it was worht a look.

Yeah, I know Jax had by far the most Oline injuries and issues last year, but that Steeler unit sicked pretty bad.

That's a fair question DFWJC ...

Eagles Weakness is QB; if McNabb goes down, we're doomed. We are not very strong in QB depth.

You don't think Kolb is the future?
Reid spent a second round pick on him, that's a lot to only be a career backup.

Yeah, I won't argue with their choice of the Skins weakest link though. I absolutely think it's the O-Line. Our WRs aren't great, and Campbell still has a lot to prove, but there's a lot on the shoulders of our O-Line, and I am dubious that they are up to the challenge.

Skins need a qb and all other offensive positions will be augmented.

For pete's sake the 2002 Cowboys had Emmitt Smith, Joey Galloway, Antonio Bryant and Rocket Ismail but with Quincy Carter behind center it was 5-11 for the 'Boys....though they did beat the Commanders:)

One of the scariest potential weaknesses that clearly jumps out at me is the backup Quarterback spot ...Kolb is one injury away from being the Eagles starting Quarterback! Do you guys realize the impact of a Kolb leadership of the Eagles Offensive squad? You dayam right I'm frightened. We need someone reliable, and Kolb ain't it!; as far as I'm concerned, Kolb doesn't have enough talent to be a suitable Eagles backup QB. We need to pickup an efficient QB who can fill-in temporarily if needed (hopefully he won't be needed).

Now don't read me wrong, I think the Eagles GM did a fantastic job in reenforcing the team on both sides of the ball. I'm not sure if Jim Johnson's absence will have the impact on our defense as many as our opponent fans seem to believe. With all things being equal, I believe that the Eagles have enough assistant coaches under Jim Johnson's tutelage that would allow the defense to function without his immediate presence. That's an area that requiries some watching - but I wouldn't classify that as a weakness.

Here are some numbers from the 2008 preseason games.... NOTE: 1 TD pass in over 80 passes and very low yards per pass.... that stinks!

Game ….ATT…… COMP ………YDS ………TD ……..INT………….. Rate
Pitt…….. 21…….. 12…………… 81………… 0………… 0 ……………..65.8
Car…….. 27……… 14…………. 155………. 1………… 1 ………………66.1
NE…….. 14……….. 9………….. 106………. 0……….. 0……………… 87.2
NYJ……..21…………13…………. 138………. 0 ……..…0……………… 81.1

Many Eagle fans are saying … the Eagles really wanted Merriweather and would have selected him if he was on the board. I was always a fan of Eric Weddle, which is who the Eagles probably selected instead of Kolb (Granted he isn't playing at a pro bowl level now, but at the time I was high on him).

The pick was a mistake from the start as we already had a brilliant trio at QB with McNabb, Feeley and Holcomb. Granted I don't believe that Feeley or Holcomb are stars, they are more than capable back-ups.

So to answer your question ...Kolb is not the future of the Eagles!

The eagles weakness is RUN blocking and the Ravens weakness is their overall offense.....lol
