I was listening to NFL Radio on my way home yesterday, and they were having thier weekly mock draft. Kirwin had the Cowboys and he traded with Detroit to get ahead of Chicago and New York to take Donald. To do this he gave up next year's 2nd tound pick.

With the 16th pick Detroit traded with Houston, who took Johnny Football at 16, and gave up their second round pick, pick 33, the 101st pick, a 2nd next year, Brooks Reid and Keyshawn Martin. Houston winds up with Clowney and Johnny in the first round.

Would you do this trade with Detroit? Would you stay at 16th and take the trade terms with Houston?

BTW we end up with Deon Buchanon in the second round.

No.

Moreover, I doubt Detroit would be willing to do that first trade with Dallas for just a future 2nd round choice. Teams usually want immediate compensation unless it is a first round choice in a future season.

That trade with Houston was also silly. Why would they do that just for Brooks Reed and Martin and a few choices? A first would most certainly be part of any deal like that to drop completely out of the first round. Sounded almost like a Madden trade, which was disappointing. I expect better from a former NFL GM.

We got a future first in the J.P. Losman and Brady Quinn deal downs.

no, stay at 16 or trade down if no one of good value is there

well in the Houston deal scenario, last year we traded down to 31 and only got a 3rd round pick to show for it. In this scenario, you get the first pick in the second round #33, 2 players, one is an experienced pass rusher, a 3rd reciever/returner type, a second rounder next year, and the 101st pick. That is not bad......

Houston has a need for a pass rusher. If Reed were any good, they would not trade him. Spagnola Principle at work.

because they are taking Clowney with the very first pick..............
Irrelevant. If Reed were serviceable, they would not be looking to replace him to begin with. He is not a contract problem they want to unload. He is just not that great. I also do not see him being a starter in Detroit.

yeah, but that is what it takes to get to the 16th pick and a shot at Johnny Football...... it doesn't mean that Reed is not servicable or is a contract problem. Truthfully I don't see Detroit having a need for Reed, but if we were the ones making this deal, we sure could use Reed. Anyway, its just another one of those mock drafts that everyone is doing.

That was why the mock they did on Sirius yesterday was a little disappointing. It was almost comical. I expected better out of them, they usually try to be smart most of the time.
