said the hit on Lee was a penalty as we know and said the rule reads "when a blocker is headed back to his goaline he cannot hit a defenseless player in the neck or head area"

Lee has said Tate hit him in the chest, but I'm thinking he just didn't feel the shot to his chin/head in the heat of the moment. Both in live action and the replay, it looks like Golden turned, set himself, and launched so as to blast Sean's head.

I'm expecting... and think it's right... that Tate will be fined for that hit. Still boggles my mind how the refs didn't throw a flag in the game for the Tate hit, but called Bruce Carter for a Personal Foul (15-yarder), which seems almost worse, for touching -- pushing ever so slightly -- Wilson out of bounds.

The officiating decisions on that play alone were, on the whole, a complete joke!!!

yep and while it was across the field from me, I could see Carroll yelling when he thought he might get a penalty while Garrett just stood there doing nothing after Carter was penalized.

The refs were only watching the QB run once he passed the LOS, plain and simple. There is no way if anyone of them was watching that hit in live action, a flag would not have been thrown.

I have watched that hit over and over, looking for anything illegal and am having a hard time saying it was indeed illegal. Lee said he hit his chest, Tate did not leave his feet and it looked like he, in fact, hit his chest (not the neck or head in slow mo). But again, in live action it looked like it was illegal.

Is this one of those "spearing" situations of a defenseless receiver? Illegal or not, one of Lee's teammates should have seeked retribution at some point, but instead they cowered down.

The personal foul on the QB is a whole other topic.

Well, in the Sean Lee interview, he said he was OK and just lost his breath. He said that is what football is all about. He says if they were squared up that would probably not happen, so at least Sean is over it.

But, that was the most ridiculous call in a game that I have ever seen! Carter tapped the runner out of bounds and Sean get de-cleated.

But, that is not what changed the game. The Cowboys just got beat soundly in all areas of the team, period, nuff said, done deal, and what-not.

I want to see how they come out this next game.

By the NFL's definition, Tate hit lee in the "head or neck area." For example, if you stick your facemask into the quarterback's chest and the top of your helmet hits his chin, that's a penalty. Tate's helmet hit Lee's helmet, so there's no question about it.

The second part of the defenseless player rule is that you can't lower your head and hit with the top or crown of your helmet -- no matter where you hit the guy. Tate did that, too.

The other part of the rule is against launching. By definition, the player has to leave his feet before making contact, which Tate did not do. But I have seen similar hits flagged for launching, because he did leave his feet on the play.

Garrett was discussing with the official during the play.

Part of me wonders if he would have gotten a little more animated if the official wasn't a woman.

Don't be a sexist, bro!

We really need the regular refs back!

Its because they changed their mind once they realized that the penalty would have benefited Dallas - and could have altered the outcome of the game.

However, he already threw the flag so he had to call something. Thus he called it on Carter.

Whether we like it or not, I believe we should have a penalty system for refs who continuously make bogus or favorable plays against one team over the other. Penalize them base on pay. Therefore they will think twice before they call a bogus call on one player so that the other team can win.

Nah, he wouldn't get upset if he saw his wife being mugged right next to him.

I wasn't joking and I don't think it's sexist to suggest that a guy might temper himself when speaking to a woman official.

I think that is a little extreme. Simplest solution is usually the right one, and the simplest solution to this one is incompetence. Also the flag that came flying was from the downfield judge who watched Wilson going out of bounds around the same time that Carter gave him a light push.

I'm dying to see where this official was at when the play happened.

There was another official about 7 yards away and he didn't even reach for his flag.

Did you see this pic? If you have you need your eyes examined, it's textbook illegal according to nfl rules.

I have no doubt it was a cheapshot and probably illegal, but in that photo, it shows Lee's head in that position after impact. Picture Lee's head a millisecond before that hit and upright, it is extremely close on the neckline. The physics of that collision will make Lee's head dive forward like that everytime. When Tate squared up to hit him, it looked like a couple of inches below the neck when reviewing it in slow motion over and over.

I am in no way defending Tate, it was a dirty hit. The ref's should have called a PF no matter if it was technically legal or not.
