NFL Replay and Cowboys Stadium

The Cowboys don't show the network feed on their video board, they have their own cameras and game production team. This means that in addition to the network video, there are a whole set of other cameras, getting different angles, etc. of the game.

Something I noticed at the stadium and then came home and watched it again off my DVR is that the interception that was challenged and overturned wasn't shown from a very good angle by the network. Some might argue that it was inconclusive even, just going off what NBC showed, but in the stadium we were looking at a VERY clear shot of the ball laying on the ground and Sean Jones laying on top of it without having possession of it.

The other thing the Cowboys feed showed (and I thought I saw pretty clearly as well) was that Miles Austin's arm was grabbed and held, and he was pulled off his route 2 or 3 steps from being where the ball was delivered. It was actually a very accurate throw by Romo, but Austin was interfered with and that wasn't called. Of course, that part of it isn't reviewable, but all of this leads me to wonder....

what video is available to the review official? Just the network feed, or the Cowboys feed too? Also, do the Cowboys have any control over what the replay officials get to see of their footage? Obviously there are angles being shot that aren't on screen...

Wow that's a good question. I would like to think the NFL uses all possible views, even in house cameras (if they're HD of course, some stadiums don't use HD feeds for their screens).

I think I remember someone saying one time that the refs have access to footage that we don't see.

They had a fair shot of it. The Cowboys had a GREAT shot of it. It went up on the video board and the ball was 30 yards long laying there under Jones. But the question isn't whether it was a valid overturn, it was, it's what do the officials get to see, and what advantage does the Cowboys having their own video production give the team (if any) with the replay official?

Or, like the PI on Austin... it wasn't a reviewable call, but let's say there is a reviewable call the network didn't catch but the Cowboys did... does the replay official get to see the Cowboys' feed? And if so, do they have any ability to filter what the replay official gets from them?

I believe they only get the network camera feeds not the teams but I could be wrong.

Very intriguing question....I'd like to know the answer to this one, too.

This seems logical to me. Seems like it would be way too easy for an opposing team to cry foul if the refs are using the home team's footage. But who knows! I didn't even know until tonight that Jerryworld had it's own camera crew!
