The Cowboys have reportedly acquired the services of StriVR Labs, a company that works in the field of virtual reality and has developed software that allows players to view live practice action in 3-D.

This comes on the heels of the Cowboys enlisting the use of drones to film parts of their practices this spring. The team has built a room at their Valley Ranch headquarters specifically for the virtual reality system.

So how does it work? The team installed a stationary camera behind the line of scrimmage that offers a 360-degree view of the play, including sound. Quarterbacks, linebackers and safeties will wear a virtual reality headset that allows coaches the ability to see if players are making the correct reads and checks. The technology ostensibly also benefits players not involved with the play by giving them a first-person perspective of game tape.

This sound like cutting edge type stuff. It's probably the wave of the future with all the advances in technology.

Awesome. I like that they're trend setters now, not following in the wakes of other teams. Letting coaches see what players are looking at, especially at linebacker and secondary, could be huge. Cut out mistakes before they happen

One day the game will be played by robots. No concussions, no ACLs, and no mental errors.

This sounds really cool. I guess it means they can now evaluate several different players playing the same position by seeing how they would have reacted to the exact same play. They don't have to depend on everything else going right on the play. They can even show them the same play again later to see if they recognize it and if they learned from their mistake.

Drones? Seems a bit unnecessary, and more of a "cool toy" item.

I think it'd be good to have perspective draft picks test under VR at VR. Would be limited to certain positions of course but seeing how a QB might digest the look would be much better than using a white board.

keeps a few more guys employed though...you have to have some type of nerd running that...can you imagine some 120-lb geek saying "I am on the Cowboys staff"....

Getting to play with remote control cameras during practices? Where can I apply?

Back in the day, Dallas always stayed at the forefront of modern technology to have an edge over the rest of their competitors in the league. Great to see that well-known tradition being extended to the present day.

I think it's great (especially for developing QBs) now coaches can see exactly what players see and help diagnose mental mistakes.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Should be interesting to see if they have the same sort of success that the person who developed it at Stanford demonstrated with their QB.

Backup QBs need reps and someone like Vaughan might be a beneficiary.

I am 100% positive, Belichek, Brady and Kraft are interviewing the best hackers right now. Hack into other teams VR and Drone systems.
Will do both, steal info and videos, as well as implanting incorrect info to game plans and practices......maybe even virtual deflated balls....

They'll pay them off with a few signed deflated footballs.
